We're having our reception at Banquet Center of the Little Hills http://www.banquetcenterofthelittlehills.com/ , near 370 and 94, just north of historic St Charles.  Our wedding is this coming June so I can't say how the actual event went but it's been easy so far.  The venue includes cake and DJ which makes things easier.  They have space for up to 300 or so I believe.  I'm sure they'd do the ceremony there as well if you're looking for a place that does both but I'm not sure of that as we'll be getting married in a church.  Good luck finding your ideal space!

Are you looking to stay in St. Charles the town or county? There are some really beautiful wineries in the area not too far from St. Charles. Most of them are set up so you can do ceremony and reception at the same place...Mt. Pleasant, Stone Hill, Hermanhof are some of the big ones. As far as reception venues, Heart of St. Charles and the Columns are big ones in St. Charles, and then there is a string of country/golf clubs (Old Hickory is one of them I believe). I've not been, but my best friend who is a wedding photographer has done some receptions at the Christy is O'fallon and was happy with the food and service. (Her name is Lisa Wassilak btw, www.foreveryoursimages.com hehe)

There are so many options around here...what kind of a place are you looking for?

Thats the problem!! There are sooooo many choices, but none are popping out at us yet! Its discouraging! We really dont want to do the typical wedding banquet hall. We would love something different, but also affordable!

If you don't want to do a typical banquet hall, definitely check out the wineries. There are so many beautiful options around here. Wine Country Gardens is a very nice place. I've been to a couple of receptions there and the food is fabulous!! Their prices are reasonable in my opinion, mostly because they include everything.

Quail Ridge Park in Wentzville is another option, especially for reception but I don't know about the size.

Another things you might do is check with some of your other vendors for places they've worked before. Lisa (my photog friend) have a unique perspective on venues sometimes because we see the "behind the scenes" stuff.

I saw some pictures of a wedding at the Jewel Box in Forest Park. I know that's not quite St. Charles, but it looks beautiful! Also, the Larimore Plantation is really pretty for a ceremony. You might not like them for a reception though if you aren't looking for the regular old reception.

This place -- the old opera house -- just reopened: http://ohbanquets.com/.  It's incredibly affordable and quite a cool space.

My mom owns Magpie's on South Main St. and was bugging me to look there, but we had our hearts set on Mad Art Gallery in Soulard!  Shameless plug, but Magpie's really is a super cool place for showers and rehearsal dinners (only big enough for small weddings). :)

Here's another good spot!  The Foundry Art Center:

    Good luck!!

We looked at quail ridge park for ours, but it books up over a year in advance. Plus, you can't have candles and something else that I was using, maybe alcohol?

I like the opera house downtown as well. It was just out of our menial budget, plus we decided to keep everything in one town (Troy) for less travel time.

We are having ceremony at the Umsl provincial chapel and our reception at Ameristar Casino in St. Charles. You can also have the ceremony  Ameristar if you wanted to keep everything within St. Charles. We also were going for somethign a little different and didn't care for the typical banquet halls that we were finding in the St. Charles area.

All of these ideas are great! Unfortunatly, we're trying to keep it under $30/person with an open bar!! HELPP!!!!!

I think the Heart of St. Charles is around $30 per/person. I looked there before I decided on Ameristar.

I have the perfect place for you — the new Arts and Culture Center at St. Peters City Hall (it's new and doesn't look anything like hte photos on the website because they've completely remodeled it and it's much prettier now). We booked our wedding there for September this year. Our needs sound much like yours, and we actually thought we'd use Quail Ridge but then decided against it due to space issues. At the Arts and Culture Center, it's basically a community art gallery that's open to public viewing of art, but they rent it out for receptions. It just opened this month. You can bring in your own food and alcohol (that's how we can afford it), there's a dance floor, art on the walls, a pretty view of a park through the back wall of windows, chandeliers, you can use candles, the tables and chairs are included, etc... The only downside is that the rental times are from 10-4 and from 6-12, so you can't just have it all day. I think it's $200 for the 10-4 and $800 for the 6-12. We just reserved both ($1,000 total) so we can set up early and come back later, but you can't get in again until 6, so keep that in mind. We'll try to start our reception right then, but we won't be able to eat until 7 to allow time for the caterer to set up. Give St. Peters City Hall a call and they can tell you more. Sorry for the long reply. As you can see, we're really, really excited about finding something that worked!

I am very excited about our reception place - Knights of Columbus in Cottlesville.  We picked there based on the fact that the walls are solid colored (off white?), the carpet is not wierd mauve and hunter green swirls, with open bar it is $29 a person, the chef is fabulous, and I just fell in love with the guys that run the place!  I REALLY recommend there!  We are on a tight budget, and with the simplicity of the place, we are able to use our money on great decor for the center pieces (recommend save-on-crafts.com!).  Good luck!!!

I'm getting married in New Town this September. We booked the chapel for the ceremony and the Town Hall for the reception. The Event Tent would be a good way to go...it's HUGE and really gorgeous. You have to use their caterer...We haven't had our tasting yet (Feb 17), but I hear he's really delicious and really reasonable. He gave me some quotes for open bar and I told him it was out of my price range so he said he'd work with me on that. We're definitely trying to come in under 30/person. I think we'll be able to do it.

Anyway. I fell in love with New Town when I went there for a visit. I'm absolutely thrilled that I get to have my big day there. It's gorgeous and quiet...And there are 100s of places for the photos. I'm just...yea. really excited!!

We are getting married at our church in O'Fallon Missouri and then our reception will be at Stegton Regency Banquet Center in St. Charles, Missouri. I know you said you don't really want the typical banquet hall, but they are at that price point.  We are having 250-300 guests and rented out the entire facility. They include buffet, cake, 4-hours open premium bar, the table linens, candleabras and more. I decided to go with them because i couldn't beat their prices, plus you don't have to worry about looking for other vendors and paying for a ton of extras. But if you are looking for some where a little different and nice, I would check into the Foundry Art Center in St. Charles. I went to another wedding there and it was beautiful!
