inviting

the priest?  do i have to?  we don't know him because it's not either of our home church.

    I think etiquette says that you invite the officiant (and spouse if they have one) to your wedding reception and rehearsal. It is up to them if they decide to accept. Many times they don't.

    ditto pp. He may come to say the blessing before dinner, he may stay for the entire thing, or he may decline, but it is definitely polite to ask.

    I'm not inviting the priest to my reception. It's funny because I didn't know it was "etiquette" until I got on these boards. I feel it's up to the couple and whether they want to or not.
