Cruise Wedding? HELP

Hello! Writing to see if anyone has any ideas or experience with cruise weddings. I am Peruvian and my fiance is French but we live in NYC so have decided to do a destination wedding for convenience. The idea is to take a cruise leaving from Miami to the Bahamas and get married at the beach. Problem is, I never took a cruise before or haven't been to the Bahamas...am I crazy to experiment on my wedding day? Help? Suggestions?
Thanks!

Re: Cruise Wedding? HELP

  • Have you looked into the legal requirements?I know that some countries require that you're there for 48 hours before your actual wedding day.  Once you figure out that part of it, I don't think it's crazy at all.  Is there something specific that you are worried about?  The actual cruise?  Getting sea sick?
  • We were guests on a wedding cruise to the Bahamas, the couple had to legally get married in their home state first. My impression was the Bahamian weddings were not recognized by their home state, which may not impact you. My personal recommendation would be to pick a resort and have a destination wedding. A cruise wedding is very restrictive and if cruising does not mean a lot to you then it isn't worth it. We were on a Carnival ship and will not go cruising ever again but would have very much enjoyed a trip to a resort in the Carribean.
  • My cousin got married on a cruise.  She couldn't actually get married during the cruise, they had to get married in port before it left.  The wedding party and guests were let on first, they had the ceremony and reception, then any guests not participating in the cruise were escorted off before the ship left port.
