Menu Cards??

I am interested in those who have thought about menu cards -- why did you choose them or not?

I went with them because I think they add a touch of elegance to the table. Additionally- its never really just chicken or beef etc. Its chicken with x,y, and z and its nice to let guests know what they are eating.

But really- its about the table. I think it just looked so classy to have the menu at each setting.

I agree with Star. Plus, the last wedding I was at just had one fancy one in the middle and it actually got passed around the entire table because everyone wanted to read it, so I thought that shows that people really do like to see it.

We opted not to have menu cards.  I think that they just add clutter to the table after everyone is seated and people put their napkin on their lap.  We included detailed descriptions of our meal choices on our response cards so I didn't think it was necessary.  Totally a personal choice though.

We had menu cards and definitely needed them.  We had a 15 course tapas menu, and I wanted our guests to be able to look to see what they were going to be served (also so they could see that there was going to be a LOT of food, so they didn't need to fill up on the first few items served).  And as we had guests with food allergies & dietary restrictions we wanted them to be able to order off the regular restaurant menu if our choices didn't work for them (which 2 guests did).

I have been to weddings with them and without them, and I definitely prefer to have them.  Even if I choose my meal (1) I never remember what I picked by the time the wedding comes around months later, and (2) it's nice to know what else is being served (ie. salad, potatoes, grilled veggies, soup, etc).

We went to a wedding last month without menus and H's uncle has a lot of food allergies and didn't find out until after 10pm (about 3/4th of the way through dinner) that he couldn't eat ANYTHING on the menu.  He was annoyed and said he would have put in a special request to the kitchen right away if he'd have known, but instead he left the reception early to go home to eat since he was starving by then.  (He even tried asking ahead of time what was going to be served, and no one would tell him bc they said it was a "surprise" :P)

Menus don't have to be expensive.  We bought pretty printer paper with a simple scroll design on it on clearance at Target for less than $10 and just printed them ourselves.

We had menu cards, mostly because they were provided at no charge by the venue. If the venue hadn't included them, we were planning on doing one or two cards per table. I wanted the guests to know what the sides and accompaniments to the entrees were in case anyone had a food allergy.  I've been to a couple of weddings where a sit-down meal was served and the other guests at the table  and I played "name that side dish" because the food was unrecognizable.

I'm doing them- I printed my own and bought paper. You can do them cheaply, which is nice- The napkins are going to be folded like a pocket, and I'm slipping the menu card inside.

I hate when I read a thread and realise theres another little job for me to do :)
but i suppose it makes sense for people to know what they are eating!

I chose to have them because they went with my "theme".  I am making boarding pass escort cards and I thought they looked silly with just one page.  So I made the menu the second page.  They arent' table decor, just part of the escort cards.  (see my bio under paper/diy if this confuses you!)

My fiance is a professional chef and this is one thing he really wanted. So we're doing them. We really want to showcase too why we chose these items and exactly what they are. Some French words not everyone knows in cuisine terms! So it's just an extra touch. Plus they look beautiful on the napkins and charger plates!

We printed our own, it was very easy.  We needed them because we were having an Indian buffet and so we wanted everyone to know the full description of the food before they got up to the buffet.  That made it easier for people not familiiar with the food and also I think made the line move faster.

Also, since we didn't have plates or chargers on the table, it added a touch of color.  I thikn they look nice and it was minimal effort.

We didn't do them- I felt it was a waste of both money and paper. If we had, we probably would have put out two on each table.

I had two per table and had them letter pressed by Blush Design Studio. I think they added a little something to our table decor! Here's ours:

I went with them because personally I like them at weddings.  While the guests may know what the entree is, they may not know exactly what it is (e.g. may just know chicken, fish, or beef) and they don't know the other courses.  Plus for us the descriptions from our venue sounded so delicious I wanted to showcase them.  I made them for very cheap - just printed two per page on cardstock and then brought them to Staples to get cut (I think that was $2).  PIB under Paper/DIY if you're interested (template is also there).  HTH!

We did them, but we did them for basically free.  I bought a $10 ream of paper and printed out cards at home with black ink.  I wanted guests to know what they were eating.

I would *not* have paid for them :)
