My FI and I are creating a new last name. For example, my last name is Applesauce and his is Doghouse, so our new last name will be Dogsauce. (It works better with our actual last names, trust me on that).
My FI has been told to just put his foot down and say I have to take his name. The truth is I wouldn't marry someone who wouldn't combine names. Bratty sounding I know, but I believe that marriage is the creating of a new family and by creating a new last name we have started our own family. My FI knows my reasons and accepts them.
My question is how to politely respond to negative comments about why I should just hyphen, take his last name, or keep my last name. I would really prefer to not list my reasons every single time.
