Alterations on a budget?

Hi everyone,
Can anyone recommend a really good place to get alterations done for under $300? If I can't find anything in that price range, I'll just take it back to VA where I'm from to get the alterations done.
I went to Pinpoint Bridal on the Upper East Side and they were going to charge $550. I'm really on a budget, so can't do that.
Just thought you all might be able to help me out. Thanks!!

I am also looking for dress alterations preferrably in Manhattan.

Not really sure....Vera Wang on Madison did not charge me for any alterations....  Even the BM dresses...  You could try some local fine dry cleaners...probably be a bit better priced..
