Late Thank You Note??

Hi Ladies,
In looking for our Christmas Ornaments, I stumbled across a stack of our wedding cards, one of which had a GC for a local restaurant I though we had lost.  I remember receiving them from friends of ours, but couldn't remember if they were for an engagement gift, shower or for the wedding.  I found them in a card congratulating us on the wedding from her and her husband.
I could swear that I haven't written them a thank you note, but my thank you list says I did write one.  Our wedding was back in March.  Is it too late to send one apologizing for my way late note/thanking them, going with my gut that I forgot this one note, or do I go with the list that says I already sent them one??  I'm not sure how my list is wrong, but I was 100% sure I hadn't sent one until I saw that list.  I'm feeling quite bad about it since I made sure to get all of our other TY notes out in the coupe of weeks following the wedding.  Thanks for the input

Re: Late Thank You Note??

  • Are you close enough to the friend that you could just ask?  I'd probably call (or text, whatever you normally do) and just ask if they received a thank you note from you.  Regardless of their answer you can explain that you just stumbled upon their gift and for some reason just had a gut feeling that you hadn't sent one; and if you're right you can go ahead and get one in the mail and if you're wrong no harm done.
  • I would send it. If you already sent one, they will just think its a bit funny but they would be unlikely to best upset about getting two. And if you didn't, then its good you are now.

I agree.  I would reach out to her and let her know what happened.  I would find it strange to receive a TY card 9 months later (even more so if you already sent her one.)

  • I like the idea of calling first.  Heck, I just got a thank-you not from a friend for a baby shower gift.  Baby is now 18 months.  But, she is thankful and it was a BEAUTIFUL note!
