  • Goodnight Salt! I haven't seen the movie so I have no idea if you're going to like it or not.

  • birdie and kjb, that is freakin' adorable.

Pretty much the only thing my cat understands is the sound of shaking the bag of treats.
  • My cat knows what the goldfish crackers box sounds like. He will try to swat them out of your hand if you don't give him some.

  • My cat steals bacon.  Right off your plate.  And he loves whipped cream.  He's a sneaky little booger.

  • Pepper knows the sound of a chip bag. They all respond to "outside". And they all know the sound the treats make when we're pulling them out of their box. All but one of the dogs will sit for a treat. Bosco, the little one, will just jump and dance around.

  • Oz knows the sound of the ice tray cracking because FI always makes himself a Bourbon on the rocks and gives Oz and piece of ice :) He sometimes gets a lick too, but immediately regrets it (like his mommy when she tries Bourbon).

Night Salt! I looooooveeed Inception. Seriously one of the best movies I ever watched.
  • Bacon and whipped cream? I think we have some crazy pets around these parts.

  • Actually, my cat thinks anything that sounds "shaky" is treats - cereal, Goldfish, a pill bottle, what have you.

I lied - she also hears the clinking of a spoon against a bowl from everywhere in the house, and comes running because she thinks that means she will get to lick up the milk....which she usually does, if it's H or me eating cereal.  When my parents were here last weekend, not so much.
  • Oh yeah Birdie reminded me two of them come running when we open the freeze because they want ice cubes. The little one thinks it's a treat, but if we give him one he won't chew on it, he just leaves it on the floor to melt so he doesnt' get one anymore. The big one could care less about ice. Pepper and Patch (in my sig) however looooove ice cubes.

Out of the 4 cats I have, I really only have 1 that loves people food.  He loves string cheese, cool whip, cream cheese.  I know he's not supposed to eat any of that, so he only get a little smidge.  Unless of course, he helps himself.

  • Soup cans and tuna cans kept in the same kitchen cupboard.  My two used to be able to tell the difference between me picking up the tuna can v. the soup can.  Same with the utensil drawer.  They could tell when the can opener came out v. a ladle.

I still have no idea how they could tell.

  • I'm here and I just need to vent.

There is a restaurant near our house that we just have bad luck at. Every single time there is a problem.  . We know the owner, chef and main bartender and they come to DH's restaurant (often actually) so we feel the need to patron theirs.

Well a few months ago  we were given a $500 GC to the restaurant.  We have been a few times trying to use it up but have  always had issues.   Tonight I asked a GF if she wanted to go to dinner to use up the GC.  She has also had issues, but since it's such a small island and we know everyone we really want to give them the benefit of the doubt.

So we go to dinner a 6pm.  Thinking it will be slow (which it was), we decide to sit at the bar because we know the bartender.  He promptly gives us tasting of Pinot Noir from a tasting they had earlier in the day.  J orders soup and a salad, I order beef Wellington.  The drinks were flowing, but  we did not get  our food at 7:45pm. because the bartender forgot to fire our dinner.

I'm so annoyed.  Part of it was our problem.  Knowing the bartender I think it made us passive and not complain. But after a while it was like a test on how long  the bartender would  notice we had silverware but no food for over an hour.  (it was only after I said something did he react)

It's like we are cursed or something.  It's never the same server, bartender, cook or even issue.  It's just that there is always a somesort of issue.

They comped most of our drinks so our bill was still $71 (food is expensive here).   Even after paying tonight's tab we still have $98 left on the card.    At this point we are not going to use the balance although it pisses me off someone paid good money for the card AND the restaurant benefits from us not using it.

    okay.. Vent over..

  • My childhood cat loved tuna and he would hear the can and next thing you knew he was standing next to you.

We don't give our dog any kind of people because he has allergies and he really thinks it's unfair that the cat gets Goldfish. It's really sad.

lynda that stinks.  especially because ithe island is so small.

ETA:  Is the food at least good and are the drinks generous?

  • Only Pepper begs for people food. The others don't really care. She's the one that will come running if a chip bag is touched.

  • Lynda - that stinks.  Poor service is the worst, but habitual offenders make me not want to go back.  Still, if someone had paid for a gift card, I'm not sure I would let that stop me, I'd just go chalk it up as an adventure, and enjoy my free dinner :).
  • My dog loves ice cubes too.  She comes running when we open the freezer :).  Or when anyone opens a freezer.  We'll be at other people's house with her and they'll get out ice for drinks and she'll come running over and stand by the freezer just waiting for "her" cube :).

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Roll Call...Who's here? What's everyone up to? : Wow.. I didn't know how long that was.    sorry.. Yes the drinks were good and plentiful.  After a few glasses of wine  the bartender created a drink call Christmas Tree.  It was muddled mint, Bombay, Goldschlager and soda with a Star fruit garnish.  It was pretty good and I do not like gin or goldschlager.  The food was good also. Their beef Wellington is in a puff pastry and is always  very good. .

last time I drank Golschlager I woke up with gold leaf in my hair.
I must have had a VERY good time.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Roll Call...Who's here? What's everyone up to? : I've noticed this at places we used to go to in Charleston. I think they get complacent because you go in there all the time so they sometimes don't view you the same as they do other customers. Which to me is strange, you want to treat your regulars the best. They're the guaranteed revenue. It's easier to get old customers to come back than to try and pull in new customers. That's a golden rule of marketing in hospitality.

See we go to another place more often.  When they see us walk in the door the drinks are made before we get to the bar. They give us shots, make sure our drinks are always filled, save us seats, make sure our game is on the big TV, etc.   DH is actually allowed back in their kitchen and he can cook whatever he wants when ever he wants.   That is the way to be treated.

  • I worked at a restaurant/sportsbar and our regulars we THE MOST obnoxious, picky, special menu folks I've ever waited on.
Wing night - I want them extra crispy and all drums or all flats - so the kitchen has to dig through them to pull out what they want.
Pizza night - I want these 5 toppings, but not too much, and can  you put this one and this one on top of the cheese, but the other 3 underneath like normal?

  • I'm half here and half doing the tip envelopes for my building.

WHERE are all these people other than around at Christmas?

lol   -- we can be annoying at our regular spot.  but we normally send Jager shots to the kitchen and they do not seem to mind.<img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif" border="0" alt="Tongue out" title="Tongue out" />    They even give us xmas gifts.

  • I think the last time I had Golfschlager was my 21st birthday ::shudders::

Welp, FI wants the computer to play Civilization and I think I'm going to throw on a movie and celebrate my Christmas break. :)

  • Well now that you've stepped in Fish...

Loopy I totally get that regulars can be a PITA. Some of them are great though and the kind of people you don't mind seeing over and over again. The way Lynda described that other restaurant is exactly how I've been treated at other places as a regular. I think it just depends on the place I guess.
