And I do believe it was blue who got called out by fische for this. Not approv. Approv did have a lot of money and felt discriminated against because of it. And she probably is reading this right now and having a cow.

Yeah, I tried to find it, but I couldn't. I think it was like New Year's or something, though.
  • I think the great thing about e-rings that cost so much is that they're basically insurance. If something awful should happen you know you've got a piece of jewelry that if you sell to the right person can sustain you for a year. No sarcasm, I actually think about it this way.
  • Honestly, I hate when people say they would never want to know what their FI/H's spent on the ring.  Like it's a bad thing to know.  H and I always talked about big purchases and finances even before we were married.  And I was there to pick out my ring and know exacty what was spent.  The ring doesn't mean any more or less to me because I know the price or what the price is.  I don't think it matters whether people know or not what was spent, but I don't think it's this horrible thing for people who do know.

  • I don't think it's a horrible thing to want to know either.  But I actually worry, that since he didn't go through any of my connections, that he paid too much and that would piss me off and I couldn't keep my fat mouth shut and then I'd hurt his feelings.  So better for me not to know.
  • I know what my X paid for my old e-ring. I also know he waayy over paid for it and really should have done some homework.
  • I know what he spent. I don't care at all. I don't get why it would be taboo to know.

BTW IT WAS ONE MIRRION DORRARS.
  • When we first started talking about getting married, H said he didn't know what kind of ring to get me. I went to the jeweler to pick out some things I wanted (H thought that was brilliant). The salesman gave me a packet of information to give to H. I knew the approximate cost of the options I had chosen.

I know exactly how much my ring costs because H's checking account was hacked the same week he bought it. He was OOT, so I was following up with the bank. Also, I saw the appraisal, since I'm the one who handles all our insurance.

If Blue said it, I think it was pretty douchey.
  • I know what H spent and I think I did ask. I was curious. It wasn't a "WTF did you pay for this so I can tell how much you love me, biiitch" thing, but I was curious.

My ex is an idiot and "hid" the receipt for the ring in his dresser.  Uh, who does most of the laundry smart guy?  Plus he let my mom pay for part of it which still pisses me off.

Aryn, you still have your ring, right?  Have you tried selling it yet?  I need to sell mine, but I'm not sure where I'll get the best price.

Adamar, I have tried selling it. I am not having any luck so I'm probably not much help. I know the privately owned jewelers had no interest in mine other than buying it's weigh in gold. I had one response to a craigslist add that was legit but she wanted to meet up during working hours and I can't do that.

  • Yeah, I asked the jeweler who made my current engagement ring about it and he said he can't give me anything close to what it's worth.  There's some gold and diamond place around here that I've been meaning to check with.  How much did you list it for on CL?  Not an exact amount, but did you list it for what it's worth/appraised at or lower?
