Tragedy in a CT elementary school.

Latest reports confirm 27 dead, 18 of them children, making this the worst school shooting in history.  Although a school shooting at any time of year is horrible, with being so close to the holidays my heart aches for these families who have lost a loved one.

Retread: a terrible horrible person.  There is a lot of things that are still unclear but it has been confirmed that the shooter is dead, and it was an adult.  2 handguns were recovered though, so there could be a second shooter out there still.  There is rumors that this adult was after the principle, but again, still a rumor as of right now.

How horrible!  We just had training on dealing with active shooters earlier this week.  It's a scary time to live in these days.

Updates: shooter was a young man, 20 years old they are reporting.  Has connections with CT and NJ (they think lived in CT, but orig from new jersey).  No idea on why he choose this school, and with him being dead, the true motive may never be known.  What could a 20 year old want with an elementary school?!  I guess mental illness is always a possibility to consider.

I read in another article he was a young dad to one of the kids there... it will be interesting to see if a motive can be found out. So horrible for everyone involved, so sad!

Asolutely awful- WTF if wrong with people? It seems all the shooting was in the kindergarden :( At least thats what my news seems to be indicating. The shooter also shot his own parent today and is apparently a parent to a child at the school. SO incredibly sad. I am heartbroken for these families and praying for them.

There better be a special place in hell for the shooters.  Latest I've heard, the second shooter is in custody.  One entire classroom was left dead. There isn't a strong enough adjective to describe how truly horrifying this is.

I've heard shooter killed his dad in NJ before driving to CT and shooting his mother and most of her students in her classroom. There are no words... I can't even imagine being one of those parents or a child witnessing this. Makes me physically ill.

Now they're not even sure about the name either.  Apparently they think his real name is Adam Lanza, or he was carrying a fake ID

I think a horribly, terribly SICK person who did terrible, horrible things.

But I'm just trying to believe that people aren't inherantly BAD. That the ones who do these things are SICK, and maybe I shouldn't, but I feel sad for them as well. I don't know if it's a "correct" opinion or a popular opinion, but it helps me get my head around it.

My FI graduated from Virginia Tech and we have season tickets to football games there, so when the VT shootings happened, it really was close to home for us. We did a lot of talking and reading and processing. It's sad, but after that, everything that happens now is less and less of a shock. THAT worries me.

That's what the police are trying to figure out.  He may be the younger brother carrying his older brother's ID (other brother is most likely dead too, conflicting reports on that.  Some say 'in custody').

last report was that it was the developmentally disabled 20 year old brother, Adam, who was the shooter. 24 year old Ryan was taken in for questioning in NJ, he likely found out about all of this when people started accusing him online. What a horrible way to find out about the tragedy, at the hands of his brother; as well as the death of his mother (teacher at the school) and another relative at the family home in CT.

This is why it's a terrible idea for the media to release a name without confirmation. ...Because you might release the wrong name.
