Save the date/christmas cards

I am getting married on Sept 3, 2011 and am trying to decide on if I should send out save the date cards or not. Someone told me i should because of having alot of family out of town and it being around a holiday. Here's my question...instead of sending out Christmas cards and save the dates...is it ok to include my save the date with my card...to save on time and money?

A friend of mine had mentioned this idea before.  I wouldn't choose to do it myself but wouldn't think anything of it if I received a combo STD/Christmas card from someone.  if you are looking to save some funds I think its a fine idea.  And, people should be receiving them around the same time they buy their 2011 calendars so they can pencil in your date so that could be beneficial.

 You're doing it wrong... Post # 1000 only counts if you do a big AW post about how you have 1000 posts :)...

I asked this on my wedding month board and got responses saying that the STD might get lost in the shuffle if I sent them with Christmas cards.  I am still going to do it for a few OOT friends that I know will pay attention though.
