Is Amazon.com the only place that sells it? (aside from re-sales on eBay and Craigslist)I'm Googling and that's all I can find. Just wanted to double-check that places like Best Buy don't also sell it.

As far as I know they're only sold through Amazon, but Sony has a similar product that you can probably get through Best Buy or other electronics store.

Thanks girls! Did they, Seabass? I don't know too much about it. BFF/bridesmaid really wants one, and I was trying to see if there was a cheaper route for getting her one as a BM gift (I can't swing $300 for that, plus even if I could then my sis/MOH would need a similar gift). I'll wait to see if she gets it for Christmas and maybe I'll get lucky and it'll go down in price by April. CVL, from my understanding it's kind of like an iPod for books. You can download books onto it and have a bunch in there to read, instead of lugging around 40 paperbacks with you. It's on the amazon.com homepage.

The Sony one is $200 and according that site, you can access free books on Googlebooks, whereas with Kindle I believe you can only get books (not for free) through Amazon. But don't quote me on that. I only know that DH's uncle has one and he loves it.

Yeah Amazon created it, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it only has to be sold through Amazon now that I think about it. Kind of like an ipod isn't only sold at Mac stores, you can get it at Target, Best Buy etc..

Sony is coming out with a new touch screen reader soon, so if you want to go this route, keep an eye on prices. I can't remember when the new one is due, but the price of the current version should drop when the fancy new one arrives!

depending on what you need it for, I would consider waiting for the apple i tablet, it will be a kindle on steroids with many more features.

The Kindle is amazing. You dont have to buy the books on amazon. You can download them free from other sites and then upload to the kindle via usb. I haven't done that yet, but I have read about it.

kindle will def. win this race, so stick to amazon.  they are working with publihers to have all textbooks compatible wtih them for college, once they come out with their color version.  useless until then.
