LOL okay.  Without getting too specific, I had been planning on proposing for a few months and figured the best time was when FI's close family were all in town for her graduation from graduate school.  Day after graduation was also my b-day, which was also our one year anniversary of when we began considering ourselves 'official'.  After graduation I snuck out of lunch to go to the rest room while her dad went to get the car and instead followed him out and said I love your daughter and if you don't have any objections then hopefully the next day she will be my fiancee.  He said not at all, the whole family loves me and he'd love me to become part of it.

So next day, very busy, it's my birthday after all, I had to work all day, we had a restaurant booked for that night for the party and she was the designated driver for me and it was our one year anniversary too.  We had to be at the place at 6 PM and around 4 PM I start a car up in the garage (I'm weird, I let them warm up before driving them).  So now she's wondering what's going on since she's the one driving and we weren't leaving for a little while.  I told her since I had not had a chance to get her an anniversary present I was going to the florist to get her flowers since I get her roses regularly.  That went over fine, nothing unusual, until I grabbed the camcorder.  Now she's wondering what is going on...  The back story here is that we had talked about marriage from time to time but I told her next year (2011) since I had to save for the ring, I spent all April complaining about taxes taking all my money, so on and so forth, so even though she suspected I was acting weird, she had no idea what was coming.

We leave for the florist, but I'm not going the right direction since she knows the one I use.  We pull over in a big empty parking lot and I stop and tell her I wanted to let her drive the car around in the parking lot as part of her anniversary present.  I have a small car collection and this one in particular I've always told her she can't drive and never will LOL.  Now the video camera makes sense, she relaxes, she's happy because friends are always asking her if she's ever driven this particular car and she has to tell them I always say no, etc.  We drive around for a little bit, but time is pressing to get to the party so we stop, put her back in the passenger seat, I get down on my knee and pull the box out of my pocket and open it and ask her if she'd marry me.  First response between tears and gasping was "Are you serious?", I said yes, second was "Am I dreaming?", I said nope, then I got "Yes, of course".  Then more crying and I cant believe it and calling all her family and finding out her dad already knew. LOL

Got back to the house and she immediately turned off her facebook because she wanted to tell all her friends and family personally before anyone found out from a congratulatory post.  I got ready for birthday party while she kept making calls. It was a great week; she graduated college, got engaged, had an anniversary, whole family was with us that night.  And as a side bonus, it's easy for me to not forget the date we got engaged since it was my bday. :-)

Oh and for the record - I too thought that poster in your thread on E was rude. I get being blunt, and I get that they probably get tired of people asking the same question but a simple "no" or "not a good idea" would have been sufficient IMO. You haven't been here long, how are you supposed to know what questions have been asked before and how often?  And I do like the drink luge idea, even if that means I'm from the 80s!!!! LOL

Also....Yeah that board can be a little brutal...so be prepared or stay over here. lol. I learned to be careful what I post over there... and YES!! I wanted an ice luge to! but did not have one...

Thanks ebonyivory; it kind of caught me off guard, I mean I made it clear up front I had no intent on asking him if it would make him uncomfortable or if it was bad etiquitte; I dont claim to be an expert on etiquitte so the only way to find these things out is to ask, just didn't expect a couple of those responses.  I'm going to stay off the E board, I'm too unrefined I guess.

Thanks Stinkerbell and sloane!  I actually had no idea he was on here til today, when all the bashing happened on the e-board.  He has been very involved with the planning, which I really like.

It was taken at Mandalay Bay and I think as long as your not making to big of a deal they are fine! We actually asked a Pitboss to let us take this one and he was fine...

I'm actually here all the time, just tend to be lurking most of the time. I'll probably be more vocal once I hit the 12 month countdown mark and we take our scouting/booking trip.

Me too, although I watch college football (pitt panthers) over the steelers.  I am going to have  a hard time cheering on the steelers' QB after his recent behavior.

This house roots for South Florida Bulls (me) and Seminoles (her).

We watch both college and NFL.  We're a Big10-Pac10 house.  He roots for the Buckeyes (until they loose at the national level and then everything goes into a box he dubbed the b@st@rds box) and I root for the Huskies.  I'm indifferent about the NFL, but the typical teams we follow are the Vikings, Bengals, and Seahawks.

The first football weekend is best.  We don't leave the couch on Saturday for the entire day.

most casinos frown on taking pictures inside the casinos - but if you ask the managers or pit bosses, they're apt to let you take a few - I did that at one of the "local" casinos a few years ago for a charity thing I was doing and after a lot of questions, they let me take a handful of pics.

You said start some threads about cars?  II you include NASCAR, I'll join in the conversation for sure.  Can't really contribute much to any other sports, but since my BF is a HUGE Tampa Bay (Bucs & Rays) fan, there's been a lot of baseball on in my house lately.

I'm pretty new here, too and mostly a lurker, but welcome to you & Jackie and congratulations.
