Unity Candle

I know usually the 2 side candles are lit by the moms at the beginning of the ceremony, before the bride walks up. But I want to be there when they do it. Would it make sense to have them come up and light the candles once I've already walked up and then we take those candles and light ours right after? Just make it one whole ceremony all at one time?

I was recently involved with an outdoor wedding where we had to do this due to the wind.  When it got to the unity candle part, the pastor explained the symbolism and then invited the parents up to light the candles.  They did, handed the tapers to their kids, then went to sit down.

Yeah I am having my mom and fi's mom light the candled when it's time for us to do the ceremony, not before I get down the aisle.  Then fi and I will light the big candle and we'll have our kids blow out the flames on the little ones (I think).
