Cosmo does the unthinkable...

I don't have confirmation on which company it is, but if I had to make an educated guess, you all know who it would be, so, with that being said, as of April 2012 Cosmo no longer allows outside photography on the property. WTF is wrong with these places.

• Ohhh NOOOOO! We all live for photos at that beautiful chandelier bar!!! I'm so sad to hear this!
{Formally Hiltonsgirl}
• Seriously?! I had my heart set on some pictures there. Screw you Cosmo. Guess I won't spend any money on your property either.

...Maybe we can still try to sneak some in?

• Seriously Cashman's stuff must cost an arm and a leg just for the sake they have to use so much of their money to bribe these ridic hotel exclusive deals.

I mean you said the article didn't name what company but I doubt it'd be someone random.

Yeah, it was one of our two stops on our planned photo tour. However, Mike L and Courtney can make pretty much anything look awesome, so I'm not super concerned. It would have been nice, but, honestly, it's their (Cosmo's) loss. It is great (free) PR, IMHO, for a hotel to have wedding photos taken there.

ETA: Now I need to figure out where we're going to take our pics. Crap. LOL.
• BOOO that was going to be my big stop on our photo tour. VG, how'd you find this out?
• It wouldn't be so bad if Cashman didn't a) suck and b) charge so much.

Didn't someone recently post that a Cosmo bouncer took her photographer's camera away and started deleting pictures during her photo tour? Seriously, that alone is enough reason to avoid the Cosmo.

I was at the Cosmo last weekend and the gaming tables were empty and dead. The young hip club going crowd that Cosmo is trying to attract is not gambling there.... so why alienate another group of people (wedding people) you also happen to be bringing groups of friends with them into hotels to gamble / drink / eat. Seems like a stupid move to me!

It's amazing how stupid some of the business decisions are that resorts make. The wedding industry is a cash cow, whether you're providing services, or just courting weddings knowing that having an extra 50 or 100 rooms booked makes business sense; but instead, lets alienate the group. If someone wants to loan me a billion or so, I'll start a new Vegas resort that is run the right way.

• Wow, glad I got mine outta the way. I ran into a problem at bellagio outside, a lady was like " u can't have an outside photographer, what company do you work for?"..good thing Keith was wearing very casual clothes, I was like "he's my uncle, and has a nice camera, we really can't take pics?" she kinda hesitated and walked away. So why not just do it.

Maybe Steve Wynn can hire you to come run the Casino he wants to build up here in Massachusetts! But photography is an important portion of a wedding for a lot of people. Honestly, the reason I canceled my appointment with the Wedding Salon at Wynn was that we would have been required to use Cashman in the Ballroom for the reception - no thanks! I told them that was why, too.

Don't worry - plenty of AWing coming your way soon! I think we have four regulars with weddings that weekend :)

And I'd totally stay at your hotel, VG! I'm guessing the casino would only have $1 craps? Gggyeahhh!
• This kind of makes me sad. I didn't plan on taking photos there but I'm sad that the other casinos might start getting the same idea. :(
• If Cashman gets its claws into too many properties during the next year, we're going to end up doing our First Look at 7-11.

Well lets not get crazy, $3 craps so the staff can calculate the payouts easier.

Fair enough :) I'd take a $3 table any day! Is there anywhere on the south strip you'd recommend for craps? I normally play at Excalibur since it generally cheaper than the other big casinos...

I'd be up for taking suggestions anywhere on the strip, but probably will stay south if I only have an hour to play.

Yeah Excalibur actually is pretty consistent on having $5 craps so its a good place to go if you want MLife credit for your play too. Tropicana across the street is also a good option.

In-N-Out is on our must-take photo list, actually. :) We freaking LOVE In-N-Out. Whenever we go to CA to visit our friends, we try to eat there every day.

I'd have them cater our reception if it were a) possible and b) wouldn't send my mother into a pearl-clutching fit.

They may have officially set a no-photographer policy in April 2012, but they were already blocking outside photography to some degree last year because I found that security barred photography inside Cosmo back in September 2011.

If you really don't approve of the anti-outside-photographer transition, maybe you can petition for limitation of the contracts that enforce the monopoly of a single photo entity on resort grounds. Otherwise, the pattern will continue.

That will not likely matter, for several of reasons:

1) The resort most likely has a contract in place with Cashman, or whomever, that states they're the exclusive photographer. Adding language to a customer's contract to let a third party in would violate the vendor contract.

2) Most casinos wedding staff don't have the pull to get such a change put in.

3) Most people aren't spending enough for the resorts to care, apparently. We were prepared to spend $60,000+ at Venetian for ceremony and a huge ball room reception, until we were quoted $9000 for all day photography from Cashman; we went elsewhere and told them that's the reason, didn't matter.

Whatever backroom deals Cashman works out with these resorts, it must be pretty impressive because they absolutely care less about what their customers actually want and just stick to the policy.

• What the hell...? :(.

We are planning to have our reception at Wicked Spoon on September 2013. Do you think they won't let us having our own photographer to take our pictures? Photography didn't come in a package with Wicked Spoon private room deal. So now I'm confused. Gah!
