March 2012 Weddings

2 Invitation Questions

Hello Ladies!! 69 more days until March 9! LOL.
So, I am going to look at invitations tomorrow, and order them. On my contract for the venue, it says ceremony starts at 6:30. My first question is: What time do I put on the invitation? Should I say 6pm, so nobody is late, or just say 6:30?

My second question is: What is the latest I could send them out, and what RSVP date should it say? I have rooms on hold too, at the hotel, and they say to call on or before 2/9 to get the discounted price.

Thanks!!!!!!!

Re: 2 Invitation Questions

  • I personally think you should put 6:30 since that's when it starts and people should know to get there earlier already.

They say you should send them out 6 - 8 weeks in advance - 6 if it's local with local guests and 8 if it's destination or you have lots of OOT guests. The RSVP depends on how long you have to track some people down that did not reply. Take the date your venue needs to have the final count and add about a week to give you time to make phone calls to the stragglers. Also - there is a post a few days ago about when everyone's date is and when they are doing invites/rsvp.

    Good luck!

Six weeks would be the latest to send out your invites so for you that's the last week in January.  If you have a lot of out of town guests you need to send them out earlier. We actually send ours out yesterday because we have some international guests.

  • definitely put the real start time on there...if you have to start 10mins later for whatever reason thats fine but dont make peopel wait 30mins cause plenty will be early then they would be waiting even longer!

our wedding is march 24, invites go out 12/31 and the rsvp date is feb 18. that will give us a week to handle the no responses and then its also the day the wedding block at the hotel needs decisions by....the venue needs 3 week estiamted count and our escort cards need to be personalized/made

  • I would definitely put the actual time you plan on starting. Most people will know they need to show up at least a few minutes early. No one wants to walk into a wedding after it's already started.

As for your RSVP date, it totally just depends on when you need your final head count. Make sure you give yourself time to call or contact those that forget to RSVP.
