Non-traditional times of day

I'm going on marriage #2, however it is my FI's first marriage. He, thankfully, doesn't like being the center of attention and wants something small.

That being said, I was wondering if anybody has been to an "appetizer only" wedding? Pros/cons? The other idea we're considering is an afternoon wedding - one that doesn't go all night / late.

I suspect we will go with the traditional style wedding  but I'm just searching out other options.

The only appetizer only reception I went to was when I was 9.. I didn't even notice, but everyone was pretty put off considering half the guests had traveled from NY to KY.  

You could do an afternoon ceremony followed by a cake and punch reception... Or do a night time (8 pm) ceremony followed by dancing and appetizers.

You might consider an afternoon dessert reception. That's what we're doing. I would have considered appetizers but my FI has such a sweet tooth! Well have some fruit and nuts and healthier alternatives too.
