Lighthouse Weddings

My FI and I are really interested in having our ceremony within view of a lighthouse on the Southern Coast of Maine. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

I would check at the Cape Elizabeth town offices.  Portland Headlight is perfect - I've been to a simple, bare-foot-on-the beach wedding there, as well as a 200 person seated ceremony.  Absolutely breath-taking.  Also SMCC lets folks do weddings on their campus by Spring Point Lighthouse.

Here's info about Portland Head Light/Fort Williams: http://www.capeelizabeth.com/tFort.html

The Spring Point Ledge Light Trust also handles weddings on the grounds. http://www.springpointlight.org/trust.html

The city of South Portland organizes weddings at Bug Light Park, where the Breakwater Lighthouse is. http://tinyurl.com/28tutsk

Keep in mind many lighthouses are on public parks or property, which means there may be restrictions on what you can do to the grounds (chairs, decorations) and there likely will be other people nearby or walking around.

Pemaquid lighthouse is also beautiful, but it's in Bristol, ME.   The Bradley Inn does weddings and sets up ceremonies right next to the lighthouse looking over the ocean.  Very pretty!  http://www.bradleyinn.com/weddings.htm

I have been at Pemaquid while a wedding was going on...so yes there will probably be people walking around...but it is beautiful!

im getting married at portland head light--fort williams this september 17th!  there are a lot of different spots around the Fort that you could hold the ceremony.  we are still trying to choose that special location, but like someone said they have rules about stuff, so we are having a quick ceremony, no seating, just standing!

Our main concern is that you can't book fort williams until the same calendar year and we want a summer wedding. How far in advance did you bbook?

If you're willing to go a bit further up the coast, the Marshall Point light up in Port Clyde (about 1 and a half hours north of Portland) is one of the most picturesque sites in the world (was even featured in Forrest Gump, LOL).  But it's amazing and definitely worth checking out!
