Planning wedding from Ohio..I need help.

Hello ladies,
My fiance is in the United States Air Force and we just recently decided to have a very small wedding on the beach in Biloxi MS. Right now I am living in Ohio so this is all very hard. I am trying to find someone who specializes in such beach weddings. Any advice would be so wonderful. Thanks =)

Try contacting one of the casinos in Biloxi, and see if they have a wedding specialist that can do somethign like that, or if they have any recommendations, The casinos are pretty close to the beach, so that should be a good place to start. Or google and see if you can find any wedding planners in Biloxi.

Not trying to be a downer, but be prepared for challenges ahead of you!

I just had mine in Biloxi/Gulfport area in March and planned it from Seattle. It was not easy, but keep a positive thought. People in Biloxi/Gulfport (at least the ones that I have dealt with) seems to not be quick on their feet...oh, I could tell you all about our experiences. We fired our venue and the event planner and our minister cancelled 3 days before our actual day. In the end, we were really happy with where and the people we dealt with.

    1) If you really want a beach wedding (I think they have rules for that), contact the parks and recreation department.

    2) DO NOT USE GULFPORT YACHT CLUB. The event planner, Susan Everhart, was horrible!!! I can't stress this enough. Her title should be changed to "Disaster Event Planner". We had to fire them altogether, it was that bad.

For small reception party, I HIGHLY recommend The Chimneys in Gulfport. Its where we eventually had our ceremony and reception, and the staff and owners were awesome! Dix and Peter (owners), Sophie (event coordinator), and the staff really provided southern hospitality. This place also have some good history. Here is their website: www.chimneysrestaurant.com/

    3) Our photographer, Jen, from Uniquely Focused Photography was also awesome. She was easy to deal with and pleasant to have. You can view her work at http://uniquelyfocusedphotography.zenfolio.com/. We haven't received our entire photos yet, but so far, the ones she's provided are looking really good.

    4) Our DJ, Aaron, with Big Noise Production, was also fantastic.

    5) Our videographer, Tim McAskill, is also good. We haven't received our final dvds, but from the sample videos he's provided of our wedding is really good so far.

    6) Our minister, Jerry Schwehm, was also good to deal with. He came through after we had our original one cancel out...3 days before the big day! Whatever you do, DO NOT USE SHANNON FIGUEROA.

Tell them The Truelove's recommend them to you Smile

Good luck, and congrats! Feel free to message me, and we can chat. I know the feeling of planning a wedding away from MS. Take care.

Oh yeah, the cake. Go to Walmart Supercenter in Pass Christian. Linda was really great to deal with, and their cake, believe it or not, is very tasty!!! They are also A LOT CHEAPER than regular bakeries. DO NOT USE cake maker/decorator Jacque or Lori.

If you want more of a plantation style southern wedding there is a house in Pass Christian that is about 30 min down the beach from biloxi. It is called Oak Crest Mansion www.oakcrestmansion.com the staff there is awesome!I almost got married there but decided to do it in New Orleans instead.Good luck with your planning it's a lot of work but totally worth it! People from MS are not dumb they just talk slow :). As a true southern Mississippi girl I can tell you - people from MS are so nice and always willing to do what they can to help!

LOL By no means that I meant MS people are stupid, but rather they are very delayed...really slow!

Oak Crest Mansion, I also have dealt with them. True, this is a nice place. We thought about having our wedding there too, until we realized that they wanted to charge for everything! They were going to charge us $4,000 just to use the location for up to 4 hours...this does not even include any food or anything else. They also are charging for you to park there, and all of these other charges. Oh yeah, if you use other than the caterer they have, they will charge you additional $500. They too were delayed. It wasn't a great feeling dealing with them, since they didn't get back to you in a timely manner...as with the majority of the places we have dealt with.

It feels that if you're expecting 24-48 hours reply, like what vendors should do, they don't.
