Meal selections on rsvp

Which is preferable:

 beef, fish, or vegetarian
prime rib, sea bass, vegetarian polenta

Would you prefer to just know the type of entree or is it better to preview the selections on the rsvp cards?

I'd prefer to see the entree selection, but I know it's less traditional.

I think if you have your entree selections already, I would put them on there specifically. If not, just leave it as Beef, Chicken, Vegetarian.

If you can put the (simple) description, I would.  I only like certain kinds of fish, so at the very least I would put the type of fish since that can vary wildly.

More details if you can!  I hate mushrooms and if I saw that it was chicken with mushroom sauce, I would probably pick the other option, but if it was just "chicken" I wouldn't know better.  For yours, I would seriously be excited about prime rib over what other cut I would assume "beef" was!  :)  On our cards, we included the full description.

I was as descriptive as possible with the space alloted.

Definitely be as descriptive as you can. Just saying beef or fish is not specific enough and I would be really upset if I picked beef expecting prime rib or the like and got beef wellington, or if I picked fish expecting salmon and got something I didn't like.

Personally I find the way something is prepared more useful than what cut of meat it is. For example, tomato sauce vs. alfredo sauce would make a difference for someone with a lactose issue.

Meh, I still stand by that you should have a little description.  I've never seen an rsvp card that was so skinny that they couldn't even spell out beef or chicken!
FWIW, though, I did something like this for my escort cards.  I used cow/chicken/fish/carrot stamps on the top corner to indicate their meal choice.
