I started shopping right after we got engaged and made a decision on a dress about 3 weeks ago. I will be ordering the dress here by the end of April/begining of May. The designer I have chosen is Maggie and her dresses take any where from 6-9months to come in. I wont need much alterations so they can be last minute next year. Depends on who you go with Davids Bridal & Alfredo Angelo seem to be very quick since they are a chain. Please don't buy off line some sites are not what they say they are. Depends if you want a certain designer too, I would get an idea of budget and designer and then call to see how long it is taking them to order and come in. Good Luck Saying Yes to the Dress was great!!!

Depends on where you get your dress and what alterations you'll need to begin with. It wouldn't be a bad thing to start shopping now and it also wouldn't hurt to order it now too. If the dress itself fits really well to begin with, then less alterations you'll need and less fittings.

I think it depends on the designer and where you buy the dress.  When I bought mine, they said it would be 6 months and they had it in two and half months!  I started alteration a couple months after that.  My alterations package was for three fittings and I'm basicaly just spreading them out throughout 2012.

I have my dress not doing alterations till december at the earliest. If I dont lose any weight (even a 10lb lose wont matter much) my dress fits perfect and only needs a bustle and steam.

All I need to have done is have my dress hemmed and my cap sleeves sewn into place, those don't require multiple fittings :-P

It totally depends. I bought my dress a week ago and it will be in at the end of April and then I don't have to go for alterations until 6-8 weeks before the wedding.

The only reason that would change is if I lose a lot of weight and they have to order a brand new dress.

    Agreed.

My dress will arrive in June. It depends on what alterations you need done.

I would agree with the other ladies. If you want a custom-made dress, it can take a lot longer than if you order it off-the-rack or from a chain. All the wedding books I've seen have said to give it 6-9 months to be safe.

I'm just starting my dress search, and it's so fun! Good luck!
