May 2013 Weddings

So much time and so ahead of the game... anyone else?

I'm getting excited for the wedding (May 18th, 2013!!), but I'm finding I almost got TOO ahead of planning that I'm hitting some major downtime and I dont know what else to do!  I am planning at a distance -- I live in Michigan, but the wedding is back home in PA.  I have my dress which I LOVE and my venue, photographer, and band all picked out!.  Any suggestions on what else to fill my time with?  When are you planning on booking your limo, getting your bridesmaids dressing, blocking hotel rooms, planning your menu?  All the timelines gear towards having around 1 year or shorter engagements so it's hard to gauge.  Any advice?  What are you doing at this point in your planning? :)

  • Every time I have a little time, I just try and get something wedding related done.  I don't have a lot of free time, so I find this works best.  This month and last I had almost no free time, and then I won't have a lot of free time this fall, so I'm glad I've gotten so much done when I could.

  • So far we have our venue (both ceremony and reception), photographer and my dress. I have a dj in mind, but I need to call him and I emailed a couple of florists tonight. I've got a couple diy decorations that I need to get supplies for that I'm super excited. We also need to decide on who is doing our ceremony. My best friend is getting married in less than 3 weeks and we are still finishing up on a lot of her stuff which has given me a huge push to get my major stuff done sooner rather than later.
  • I'm finding myself in the same position..I have my venue, DJ, photographer, ceremony musicians, makeup/hair artist, officiant, hotel block,  and cake baker already booked.

Right now I'm working on some DIY activities for my centerpieces and starting to map out the rest of my planning. I am choosing my wedding dress in August, bridesmaid dresses in September, tuxes in October, and the menu will be settled in January (it's inclusive with the venue).

Our May weddings seem far away but they will be here before we all know it, so enjoy some of this planning downtime while you have it :)

  • I think the only big thing we need is a church and officiant. I'll work on that next week after we visit the church on Sunday. I made an appointment to see a florist in 2 weeks and our cake testing is on June 30. I'm going to try to set up another florist consult just to compare but the one I'm meeting with was recommended and seems very nice. Hopefully by the end of June all I have to worry about is bridesmaid dresses and my DIY projects.

  • I'm currently on my summer vacation, and only working part time, so I have way more free time than I like.  Today is a great example.  I had nothing to do but laundry and then spend the rest of my day on theknot.com and facebook.  We've booked the venue and photographer.  We also have a florist.  The next thing is scheduling a cake consultation.  And the main issue right now is selling the dress I have so that I can buy the dress I fell in love with (long story).

Other than the stuff I just mentioned there isn't anything else I can get done currently.  It's really frustrating because I love planning, and now I have all this free time and there's nothing to really plan.  What's more frustrating is I won't really have much free time once school starts back since I may be working more than I anticipated.  Oh well.

  • May 17, 2013 here!  We already have a party limo booked due to the fact that May is popular time for proms, weddings, etc.  I ordered my favor boxes and they are going to be delivered tomorrow.  The centerpeice vases have been purchased as well as candles.  The bridesmaid dresses will be selected within the next couple of weeks.  We took engagement picts a couple of weeks ago and now have to select a photo for STDs.  Our photographer advised it will take 3 weeks for our STDs to be complete.
  • I know what you mean...we have the reception/ceremony space, my dress, his and the groomsmen tuxes, the DJ, the caterer, the cake, the photographer, we got our engagement pictures done at the beginning of may, I have the invitations I will be DIYing.
I will have more to do in the summer when I send save the dates, figure out which hotel to block rooms at and really sit and figure out what I want for my center pieces.
I can't wait I'm getting so excited especially because my e-pics came in today :-)
