FI and I had our first counseling meeting last night and it went pretty good. FI and I have always been able to talk to each other about basically anything but we realized yesterday how much we havent talked about esp when it comes to finances. I am in some bad debt and if we get married next May we will add on more debt and we both really dont want to enter a marriage in crazy debt. We have cancelled the May 25th,2013 date and  we are looking to push it back until 2014. In the mean time we will both be working and I will be especially working on paying off my debt and then we can start planning again but kinda starting from scratch...YIKES!!!! LOL but we are  not breaking up and we will continue going through counseling just going to be smart about everything. Thank you ladies soo much for the adivce you guys have given me. I wish you guys all the happiness in the world. AND CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I hope everything works out well for you and your FI. I'm glad you're having some counseling if that's helping you figure out some areas you both need to talk about and figure out. Best of luck to both of you!

I'm glad things are going well so far :-) I had to postpone my wedding too and it really sucked at first- but I am SO grateful for it because of things that have come up.

That is the smartest decision you could make. Take it from a girl who has been divorced after 7 years of marriage, Financial stress is one of the quickest ways to put a big crack in your relationship... sounds like you two have it well under control.

Thanks everyone. I will probably stop back time to time because May 2014 board is sooooo empty lol. I am hoping I get through all this, it sucks but I think I will be fine I just gotta keep reminding myself its for the better!

Glad that everything worked out for you both and that you were able to work through things! It may be hard to postpone the wedding, but I think you will be glad once you sort through financial issues. Financial issues are awful enough on their own!
