Getting To Know You

So, since we don't really have a set thread on Friday (and I really need something to read while at work, lol) I thought that this week we could do a "getting to know you" thread. Last week we had that great thread about how we knew FI was the one, so I thought maybe one where we could share a little more about ourselves would be nice.

Re: Getting To Know You

  • I'll start-

Something interesting/weird about me: I don't find this interesting, but other people seem fascinated by the fact that I HATE cheese. I am a super picky eater- I hate cheese, therefore I do not eat pizza. And you might say "take off the cheese" but I don't like sauce on my bread. I only like bread with butter, nothing else on it. I don't eat sandwiches or cold cuts, hotdogs, or a hamburger on a bun. I'll eat a bunless burger though. Being so picky is one thing FI wishes he could change about me I think. Not a big fam of fish either.

Favorite things/hobbies: I love to watch football, and fall is one of my favorite seasons. I love the crisp weather and no humidity too. I love reading, James Patterson is one of my favorite authors as I love mysteries. I also love to shop and have a shoe addiction. I love matching my shoes to my outfits/bags so I tend to buy tons of shoes. I also have sneakers in mulitple colors so they match what I'm wearing, I love sneakers too.

Favorite music: I like pretty much everything. I go through stages where I'll be really into hip hop, then really into country, then really into rock. I very much dislike Dave Matthews and any music that resembles him.

These are just some ideaas- feel free to add things that you want to share, like favorite memory, favorite movie, something about your job or your family, etc. Have fun with it, I look forward to getting to know you guys better (since I feel like I'm so invested in all of your weddings already, lol).

  • Something intersting/ weird about me: I have competed in fitness contest for over 7 years and I'm 44 years old. People think my strict diet and training routine during that time is strange. I jsust see it as being determined and passionate about fitness.

Favorite tings/ hobbies: I'm a true blue gym rat. I spend 5-6 days in the gym. I used to love gardening but since I moved to Texas I find it's difficult to do. I really need to start taking to time to read again. That used to be one of my favorite things to do. I also have a shoe addiction and accessories. Funny I opted for a more simple wedding dress so I can really use statement jewelry. I also have 2 pair of shoes for my wedding day Surprised

Music: I really like anything I can get up and dance to. I like anything Pitbull puts out and being from the 80's era I love the old stuff like Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Journey, Duran Duran. You get the picture.

I'm a manager at supplement store so that really ties into the whole fitness thing, I used to be a personal trainer until my full time job occupied all my time. I would love to go back into though.

Something interesting/weird about me: I have gone black bear hunting.  I am a huge nerd, going for my PhD but I am also a big redneck.
Favorite things/hobbies: Watching the Ravens win football games :-), flag football, hunting, camping, boating/crabbing, shooting, dancing, and family is huge for me.  We really drive to visit someone in our families every weekend.
Favorite music: Country and classic rock.  Some new rock is pretty cool too but I am not up to date on all the bands.

More random stuff:  Love to learn, have a gigantic family with over 30 first cousins, not afraid to get dirty and just go outside and play.  I am very bad at being girly, just highlighted my hair for the first time in my life, and terrible with makeup, and dont like to paint my nails and im the messy one in our apartment.

Things I want to do/regret giving up: I played violin for 9 years, and havent played in 5.  Always wanted to learn Italian, and guitar.  All this wedding DIY really makes me want to DIY the decor in my home, or even do it for other people as gifts, looks like fun!

Career: Graduate student studying Materials Engineering working on batteries and fuel cells.  I work summer time in a govt lab, and will be employed there full time after many years of PhD torture lol

  • Something interesting/weird about me: I have a Van Halen tattoo. lolol! I got it when I was 19. I just realized that was 19 years ago.

Favorite things/hobbies: I'm in school to be a court reporter/broadast captioner, and I love it. It's like a word game, trying to type word sounds while keeping up with the speaker. You have to get up to 225 words per minute. The last test I passed was 110 wpm. It's weird to say that my favorite hobby is writing (typing) on my steno machine because I haven't really done it since I started this job last year. I'm just working my butt off to pay for this wedding. Then I'm going back to school full time in the fall of 2013.

Music: I listen to old stuff, not much past 2000. The Rhapsody channel I listen to most is A.M. Radio, which is 50's through 80's, I think.

Movie: My favorite movie is Dumb and Dumber. It came out on video (tape!) the day my son was born. The night I brought him home from the hospital, he was sleeping on my chest while I watched it for the first time. I was laughing so hard, he was bouncing all over!

I cannot WAIT until next June, not only for my own wedding, but to see all of yours! I can't wait to see how everything turns out!

  • Yes, we got a bear (My dad, Uncle, and I).  I didn't have the clear shot but we were stalking her for quite a while, she finally stopped and it was the perfect opportunity because we were close enough, I had brush in my way so I told my uncle to go for it.  She was almost 7 years old, which was one of the older bears taken that season, beautiful girl, she had two white patches on her chest.  A memory I will never forget, walking up and down the mountains for three days 12 hours a day, no running water, ate MRE's for our meals, it was a total experience to get so in touch with nature.  Bears are tough because they see 4 times better than a deer and smell even better than a dog, OH and they dont mind attacking back...

I apologize to any anti-hunters out there, it has been a pasttime shared in my family for generations.  I have been shooting guns since I was a toddler so I have never known any different.

  • Something interesting/weird about me: I really enjoy fancy restaurants and good food, but I think milk, hot dogs and seafood are disgusting. I'm also the handyman of the house: I'm the oldest, and my dad made me help out with house projects all the time when I was a kid, so any time something needs fixed in our house, I'm usually the one pulling out the toolbox. Also, I'm the oldest of 5 kids. I'm 28, I have 25 year old twin sisters, my baby sister is 15, and my little brother is 13.

Hobbies/Stuff I do: I like being outdoors: working in my garden, biking, hiking, etc. You couldn't pay me to run, though- I hate it. I used to be a huge bookworm, but real life makes it hard for me to read as much as I'd like to nowadays. I'm also totally hooked on power yoga (it's the kind you do in a 90+ degree room). I'm on my mat 4-5 times a week. My favorite poses are headstands and arm balances (where you're totally off the ground, supporting your weight on your hands).  I also love watching the Steelers (rmp and Ash, sorry, but they're going to kick the Giants and Ravens' collective a$$es this season) and Penguins.

Music: I listen to everything. My ipod has stuff from the 30s onward on it. I like a lot of indie (gah, I hate that word) stuff, but I'm a sucker for a catchy pop song. Also, I love Jimmy Buffett and I've been to 8 of his concerts.

Movie: I don't really have a favorite movie, but there are several that I could watch over and over: 500 Days of Summer, The Little Mermaid, The Birdcage, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and Cool Runnings are some of them.

I work for a large bank in their Compliance dept. I audit different departments to make sure they're following all of the regulatory stuff that's out there, but I've also worked on mortgages and in a branch. I have some crazy stories from my branch days (including one that involved an anthrax scare). I wanted to be a vet when I was a kid, but I don't know how I could handle putting an animal to sleep if I had to.

  • Something interesting/weird about me: I have been the crazy cat lady, LOL.  I had around 6 feral cats as pets one time (one of which kept having babies because we could never catch her NOT pregnant in order to get her fixed), in addition to my 3 ferrets, 3 dogs (siberian huskies no less), 2 lizards and grade-school age child (oh and now-ex-husband).  Most people go OMG when they hear that history but I'm one of those people that looks at a sweet little fuzzy face and can't say no.  We had an acre and a quarter and neighbors that couldn't care less so I just kept taking them in, LOL.  Mama cat ended up having 5 or 6 litters before we finally got her fixed and I still have 2 of her babies, though she's passed.  I'm down to the legal limit in my city now with all animals (just 3 cats and 2 huskies) but I kind of miss seeing all those cats hanging around the house.

Favorite things/hobbies:  I love photography and scrapbooking!!!!  I take a huge amount of photographs and have several scrapbooks started (and not anywhere near being finished, lol) but I keep plugging away at them in hopes that one day I will Wink  I love doing genealogy (the study of your family history) and have discovered some very interesting things about my family leading to a very strong interest in all things Scottish and German and thus the theme of my wedding, lol.

Favorite music: Country and Oldies (1960's and before), Jazz and Big Band too.  I'm a huge band geek and fell in love with the jazz era music.  I think I can blame that on my grandmother and always watching old movies and tv shows with her.  Our favorites were musicals.

Something about my work: I work for a non-profit association of flour and grain millers (the people who mill the flour for bread - among other things) and you would not believe how technical that process is!  It's a very active association and I get to travel to new and interesting places about 4 times per year, which is great because I love to travel.  The one downfall to this is that I've always hated to travel alone and none of my family can take the time off/afford to fly as much as I travel.  I don't mind this on the smaller, local meetings but when you travel out of the country it's definitely more fun to go see the local sites if you have someone with you!  Last year I went to Guatemala and got to go to Tikal for a tour.  It was amazing and I wouldn't have missed it for the world but it kind of sucked not having a friend/family member/fiance to share it with.

Random stuff about me:  I'm a high school band geek (once a band geek, always a band geek, LOL), have an 18 year old son, love old muscle cars (mostly Dodges) and just started back to school to try and prepare for the Master's degree I'd like to get (pretty much completely unrelated to my BS).  FI works for the local Harley Davidson plant, is currently pursuing a business degree at a local college and loves to brew his own craft beer (resulting in such beers as a pumpkin ale many of his friends loved, a chili pepper beer and a smoked something-or-another that friends have raved about.  Watching him brew beer kind of got me interested in wine-making so we also started that and have ended up with about 30 gallons of pear wine (not ready to taste yet) and around 20 gallons of a peach wine that, once it finishes mellowing, will be to die for Smile

And I have to echo what sopraffina said about not being able to wait until next June to see how everyone's weddings turn out!

  • Something interesting/weird about me: My cousin and I graduated from college on the same day. We were the first on my dad (and her dad's) side of the family to get a college degree. I have 3 semesters left till I get my Masters in biotechnology and I'll be the second person on both my mom and dad's sides to get a Masters. My mom was the first and she graduated 2 days before I graduated with my Bachelor's.

Favorite things/hobbies: I love to read and I probably read about 20 books this summer. I won't have anytime to read after school starts so I crammed in as many books as possible this summer. I also really like "adventures". Whether it's a new restaurant, or new place to take my dog or just exploring a new city. On the weekends FI and I will sometimes start plans with "Want to go for an adventure?" I also love musicals, plays and traveling.

Favorite music: I go through phases. Right now I'm listening to a lot of 70s and 80s rock like Queen, Billy Joel, Steve Miller Band, etc. My last one was country and before that was an indie/alternative phase. I like pretty much any music except rap/hip hop and metal.

Favorite movie: I love any of the Disney Princess movies and right now have Tangled DVRd on the bedroom and living room cable boxes. The Jerk, Grandma's Boy, Where the Heart is and Lord of the Rings are some of my top go to movies.

I currently work as a research associate at a pharmaceutical company. I'm currently working on a project to find a new drug to treat solid tumors in different kinds of cancers. Before I worked here I've also worked on drugs to treat metastatic cancers, multiple sclerosis, and IBD. My favorite has been the cancer research though and when I was in college I used to tell people I would win a nobel prize for curing cancer someday. I know that I won't ever do that but it's definitely what I'm passionate about.

  • Interesting stuff: Most people don't believe me since I look like my brother but I am adopted. I have no issues getting a little dirt on my hands and I love children. I attended the English Nanny and Governess School to become a Certified Professional Nanny. Hobbies: I spend a good deal of my free time planning the Pathfinder campaign that I am Game Mastering. I also play Magic the Gathering and Warhamer 40000. I read quite a bit also and have a lot of hours invested into video games. Another thing I really enjoy is my job. I love that I am getting paid to play with children! Job: As I mentioned before I am a nanny.

  • Something interesting/weird about me:  I'm kind of high strung. I can't just sit around all day. I have no concept on how to spend a Saturday relaxing. If I don't get up and be productive for at least a little while I go straight up sitr crazy. And rmp, I LOVE cheese. It is easily my favorite food. I had provolone slices for lunch yesterday. I don't think a day goes by where I don't eat some kind of cheese at least once.

Favorite things/hobbies:  I love running. I've been a runner for about 12 years now. Most of you saw my AW onslaught a few weeks ago when I ran my first triathlon. I plan on running at least three next year, if not all four local ones. FI and I also like working on our fixer upper house and making it more our taste and bringing it out of the 1930's.

Favorite Music:  I like seriously everything, including some country (selectively). To let you in on my eceletic taste, the last concerts I went to was Mumford and Sons, Reel Big Fish, Great Big Sea, Cake, Journey, Foreigner, haha.

Something about my work:  I'm a substance abuse and addictions prevention educator for a not for profit that services five counties in a nine county region of NY. I'm in transition to switch counties that I service, which is great because I will no longer have a commute. I'm actually a certified k-12 health educator and did teach in the classroom last year in a district that made me want to claw my own eyes out I hated it so much. This job is way laid back and pretty great, but I'd like to go back to classroom teaching someday if I can get into a semi decent district. Don't let what I do now fool you though. I love to party and we wil be having open bar at wedding and I will be drinking plenty.

Random Stuff:  I'm a huge advocate for summer camps and all the good they do. The mission statement at teh camp I worked at was "Campfire USA build caring confident youth and future leaders" and I whole heartedly believe in that 100%. I would not be the person I am without 13 years of summer camp under my belt (as a camper and employee). I also met FI there, so there's always that. FI and myself and all our camp friends are going to get silly matching t-shirts and go run in our camps charity 5K this year and I'm really excited about that!

Something interesting: I love food. There isn't much that I won't eat.
Also, FI proposed with a funyun, which our dog promptly ate as I leaned in to kiss him.
There is a back story to that, long story short we had his grandmas diamonds from her engagement ring and we let me custom make my ring.

Favorite things/hobbies: I play cello, I haven't in some time but I really miss it.
Again I love food, I love to cook and bake, and if I wasn't scared that i would stop loving it I would go to school for it.

Favorite movie: Boondock Saints, all time favorite. I have seen it an uncoutnable amout of times, and even counted the fvcks in it. (about 300, it was a while ago I counted and I forgot)
Also, 500 days of summer(or just about anything with JGL for that matter), alpha dog, oh man so many, I'll stop here.

Music: I am not too picky, as long as I can understand the words.
I love the classics. Just about any popular song from the 80s

Work: I used to work as a manager for pizza hut for 6 years.
I recently got a new Job as a receptionist and only work at Pizza hut on Friday nights.
So if ever I am complaining about my long Fridays, it's because I work from 7am-1am.
But the extra $200 a month is nice.
Plus I LOVE my new job, they let me do anything, and wear anything. i am on here and fb, and texting all day long. Everyone is soo nice, it's really a change of pace that I needed after so ling in the food industry.

Random: Just like MrsK, I find myself angry with people that buy animals from breeders instead of adopt them from shelters. It kills me. I got both my dogs from the local humane society and I recommend it to anyone who is looking to get a pet.
The second dog I got from there was only 9months old, had been from shelter to shelter, seriously traumatized for life. We got him home and within a few days realized he was fully trained in sit, stay, roll over, and shake. I am sure he was potty trained, but regressed being in a shelter for so long.

  • Something interesting/weird about me: Out of my group of college girl-friends I was the one who was dead set on not getting married/having kids until much later on in life (at least 30s), and I ended up having a baby at 22 and now getting married at 26.I can't stand onions and celery in my food, so I always read the lists of ingredients when I buy stuff in the supermarket, even if there are 100 ingredients on it.
Favorite things/hobbies:  When I was in elementary school/middle school I used to play piano and read a lot, and in high school I used to be a drama geek. I still like to read but don't get to do it as much anymore, usually I'm so tired by the end of the day that I just want to lay on the couch and watch trashy TV. I like to travel, FI and I always do little road trips, sometimes with our daughter and sometimes just by ourselves. But I don't do well driving long distance, I get terrible motion sickness, so we have to keep coming up with fun things to do in New England area.
Favorite Music: I mostly listen to whatever is on the Hits 1 stations on my radio, and also to stuff that used to be popular when I was growing up (all the super cheesy bands like Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls). FI likes to listen to classic rock, so I listen to that with him as well. He is also a big fan of Howard Stern radio so he got me into that, I think it's hillarious even though a lot of it is so totally inappropriate.
Something about my work:  I used to do a lot of different stuff, when I went to college in Russia I majored in legal studies, so I've done some small internships in courts/attorney offices. Here I've worked for a non-profit for 2 years, and now I'm working for a university as a Program Coordinator for their Emergency Management department (basically making sure we have a plan if something goes wrong, from a power outage to a hurricane). I also plan on going to grad school next year, since FI will be graduating from his undergrad (we are taking turns lol)

  • Something interesting: I have an identical twin

Favorite things/hobbies:  I absolutely love Harry Potter, its like my obsession. But my favorite thing to do is probably read, I love books! And I'm trying to get better at cooking.

Favorite movie: Remember the Titans and All I Wanna Do

Music: I love country but the favorite artist if Florence & The Machine

I currently work as a waitress at Pizza Hut which I absolutely hate! But I'm only staying for another week until I go back to school. I"m studying to be a nurse and I absolutely love it!

  • MrsK, I have terrible road rage too, I am with you on that one.

Ana- I LOVE when Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, etc comes on the radio!!!!! There's a station by me that plays all 90's music and it's my favorite, lol.

  • Something interesting/weird about me:  One of my birthdays in elementary school was a Spice Girls theme. We all pretended to be one of them and most of my gifts were spice girls things. I was in love with the Backstreet Boys and was sad I was a poor college student when they went on tour. I've wanted to be a teacher since I was in 2nd grade and now I'm preparing for my first year!! I'm sure my FI could come up with something weird about me, but I can't think of anything at the moment. I just started up blogging and I'm sure I'll laugh when I read back through posts after my first year teaching and the wedding.

Favorite things/hobbies:  I have refound my love of reading. I have read all of the Nicholas Sparks and Emily Giffin (I have the newest on hold) books. I'm currently reading the Lucky Harbor Novels by Jill Shalvis. I really enjoy walking, but it has been so hot this summer it has dampered that. Hopefully I'll be able to enjoy the crisp fall mornings walking to work. I only live a mile and a half from work. My newest favorite drink is a vanilla blended coffee from the coffeehouse in my little town.

Favorite Music:  I'm very eclectic. I am a lover of country music, but I also listen to pop, rock and rap. The last one makes my FI wonder who he's marrying sometimes. LOL.

Something about my work:  I am a four year old kindergarten teacher and it's my first year teaching. I've subbed in every grade level I'm certified for during and after student teaching. I work for the YMCA so I cannot wait to start using my free membership only sad part is it is quite a haul since I work at an offsite facility. I am excited to teach two classes of students and help prepare them for kindergarten!

Random Stuff:  I have a dog, although she doesn't live with me. She is a "monster" who will take our neighbor's newspaper out of the box (its open on the end). She had to be tied up when the mail came and somehow she got loose one Sunday and she took the paper out of the mailbox and set it on the ground. She didn't shred it so it was almost to say "Hey I can still do this". Thankfully my neighbor cancelled his Sunday delivery. She is very sweet and very much puppy still. My favorite beer is a german style beer called New Glarus Spotted Cow. Otherwise I drink Coors Light. I played the flute from 5th to senior year and I haven't played it since (6 yrs). I was a cheerleader my senior year (small school limited uniforms and everyone wanted to be a cheerleader so it took me 3 years to make the squad) I conqurered my fear of heights being a flyer and loved the adrenaline rush I got stunting. My favorite movie is Twister.
  • Something interesting: I have played the flute for about 15 years! I just listen to 90's teenie bopper music! My FI just laughs at me and askes to change the station! Also I have had 2 knee surgeries before a turned 21 and i will have to have a knee replacement some where down the road! I spent mine and fi's 6 month anniversary in the hospital having my last surgery while he was taking finals. (i have a syndrom where my knee cap shifts too much and they had to stabilize it by braking a bone!)

Favorite things/hobbies:  love playing sports even though some of them I can't do any more. I love football and hockey!  I love shopping and relaxing on the beach!!!!!!!

Favorite movie: Boondock Saints, Willy Wonka, Cinderella,  Mighty Ducks 2.

Music: I ike everything!  I listen to country a lot on the radio but i love everything except gospel!

Work: I currently work at a university book store but I am hoping to go back for my Masters in health administration!

Random:  I moved 4 hours away to be with my fi while he finishes his last year of law school! He graduates and then 5 weeks later we get married and then 5 weeks after that he takes the bars and then finally 2 weeks after that we will finally get to go on our honeymoon/celebration of all we both have accomplished!

[QUOTE]I'll start-  Something interesting/weird about me:Clean freak! I am very picky when it comes to certain stuff. I hate mushrooms, olives, yuck. I don't like brats.
Favorite music: I love country music. I was raised on it. I am a 90's child. Still listen to backstreet boys. Love Shania Twain. Not into alot of rap. I would rather listen to older music than what is currently on the radio. These are just some ideas
Favorite memory- My sister and best friend went to walmart with my 2nd mother and waited for 45 mins then we got done and went to taco bell, she drank this flavored water and spilled it and told the guy there I spilled on myself lol(had to be there kinda moment).

I love learning about all of you so far! Something weird/ interesting: I am obsessed with cats! I have cat paws tattooed on my foot, all over my car, and I have the ashes of my last three cats that passed in glass bottles on a shelf in our kitchen. We currently have four cats, all of my cats have been rescued from shelters or foster homes and there has only been three years in my entire life that I have not had at least one cat. That's 30 years of cats! Most people find this interesting, mostly guys, I can fit my whole fist in my mouth. And lastly, I was the only girl that is was friends with in high school to not have a child either in school or the year after. I never wanted kids or really to get married, I've always been focused on my career but now I can't wait for both. I actually am starting to get baby fever! Lol Favorite things/ hobbies: I love art. Although I'm not always a fan of museums I love to study art and I'm hoping to go back to get my masters in art history/ psychology. I have my bachelors in interior design and an associates in fine art. I love fashion and shopping, I am actually very close to being addicted which makes it very hard to save for the wedding. And unlike most of you I HATE to read! I just like to look at pictures lol maybe that's why I love art. Favorite Movie: I love all of the X-Men movies and tv shows like Bones and Fringe. Favorite Music: I really like anything I can shake my a$$ to. More of a dance, house, techno fan. I like R&B and old school rap like late 80's and 90's rap, think Slick Rick and LL Cool J before he and Ice T became actors. My radio is always on a top 40 station which I like but I just don't keep up with much. Something about work: I actually love my job. I am a visual merchandise manager at Foxwoods Casino. Which is basically their way of saying I'm the retail interior designer and my staff of coordinators are really the merchandisers. I am working on 9 different store remodels and new openings right now, one opens October 5th, two the beginning of November and the other six start construction in January. I'm also working in a VIP area for the theater at MGM, while keeping up with the 28 stores currently on property so I am always busy and never bored. Before this I owned my own interior design business which focused on mainly commercial spaces and some residential. Random stuff: I am totally a city girl even though I live in suburbia hell. I wear at least 4 inch heels every day and love a good martini but settle for margaritas and sangria since no one in the sticks seems to be able to mix a martini correctly. Oh and I am super close to my very small family, strange for a full blooded portugue, we usually have big families. But me and my sister are best friends with her daughter being the next closest to me.

  • Hey ladies!

Something weird/interesting: I have the worst fear of spiders EVER! I tried watching Arachniphobia when I was younger to kinda get over it and it did nothing but make it worse lol. My FI thinks it's hilarious but it takes me hours to calm down once I see one. Therefore, nothing in my room is in a corner lol. Also I stray cat named Speckles. She's funny and kinda a stuck up furry b!tch sometimes lol. I can't let any kind of animal starve if I see it. I will try to save pretty much any animal I come across. So I've had alot of pet cats, 1 dog, and a squirrel.

Fave things/hobbies: I love shoes and shopping in general. I love to watch movies and read. Recently I have gotten into crafting and want to learn how to crochet.

Fave movie: (Disney) The Lion King and Finding Nemo, (Romantic) The Notebook

    Fave music: R&B

Work: I work in the admissions office at the school I go to. It blows lol. People always have something to complain about. I can't wait to graduate next spring and get a job as a pharmacy tech.

Random: I can't stand "debbie downers" Find one thing to be happy about at least geez. I can't wait for our honeymoon next June! Sand, sun, and my husband :)
