When is too early???

Do you all think its too early too book a reception venue. Wedding date is june 15th, 2013. I hear you should book it 2yrs in advance but then I hear the total opposite. Need help! Plz help me out!

    Ours is June 8 and we booked our ceremony venue (Piper Palm House) in October but we are not booking our reception venue till June (STL Police Hall) and the people at the reception place actually thought that was too early, so I think it all depends on the place you want and how popular it is.
