Bridal Shower question

If the mother of the bride is hosting the bridal shower, does she also bring gifts to the venue?  Can she wait to see what is not purchased and then purchase it after the shower?  Is having the shower the gift?  Please help!!!

    My mother is throwing a shower for me, and is not giving me a gift (she's sitting right next to me).  She said, "The shower is your gift!"

    My mother hosted a shower for me and gave me a gift. I think hosting could be the gift if that's what you want to do

    Shower is a gift but most mothers buy their daughters tons of stuff or help them with the wedding most of the time anyways.

    My mother hosted my shower but also gave me a surprise, small thought gift. Just to give me something to unwrap from her on the day.
