how far in advance do we need to get our marriage license?

    It can vary from county to county, but generally a license is good for 30 days.

    Since it varies so much, make sure you're checking the right county's rules. In Michigan, or at least this area, you obtain a license from the county in which you reside. If you're from out of state, obtain a license for the county in which you're getting married. For example, we live in Clinton county, but we're getting married in Ingham county. Our license will be from Clinton county. They take three business days to process and are good for 30 days in Clinton county.

    Since Lansing covers three counties make sure you're paying attention to where you live and/or where your venue is.
