streamers? like, a long stick wrapped in ribbon with long thin pieces of ribbon trailing off the end in your theme colours?

Will it be light or dark when you are walking out? If it's dark you could use sparklers. They make for some beautiful pictures too

I have seen photos where the bride and groom did glitter which made for some neat photos. That is if you don't mind getting a little glitter on your dress. It does come off very easily. 

I know other people have done balloons and streamers.

Some people have done the noise maker things that people use on New Years.

I second the ribbon sticks idea. A friend did that a couple months ago and the pictures are great. I've also seen flower petals done. 

I'd hesitate on using glitter. That stuff gets EVERYWHERE. As a guest, I'd be annoyed if I was picking glitter off myself for the entire reception.

If you're big sports fans, what about pom-poms in your favorite team's colors? (As NC State alum, we're considering that.) What about confetti?

90% of the weddings I've attend were church weddings.  Not one had a big exit leaving the church.   The bride and groom always went down the aisle first then either had a receiving line or went to a another room.  The guests went on to the reception and the couple, WP and family stayed for some pictures.    

I always thought the couple leaving the church with everyone throwing something was just done in the movies.
