Proposals

I want to hear about everyone's proposals!! Ours goes like this..... We went to Breckenridge for the weekend with FIs mom when she came to town, with his aunt uncle and cousin. That afternoon we went out and grabbed lunch and shopped downtown. FI practically begged me to get a shirt so I finall picked something out and we went over to happy hour. Our son was starting to get grumpy so we took him back to the condo to play in the snow and we were outside taking pictures of us up against the mountains. I told FI to go take a picture with our son and he kept telling me in a minute, I was getting frusterated thinking he was dodging it because he hates having his picture taken. I started pointing to the mountains trying to make my point and I turn back and he's on his knee. Now I get why he didn't want to move to have a picture taken, oops!!

My FI proposed on Valentine's Day...

So he had made us reservations for a dinner-dance cruise on the SF Bay and we booked a hotel room close to my work so that I wouldn't have to commute in the morning. After work I went to meet him at the hotel and he had 3 dozen roses, chocolate covered strawberries, & champagne waiting for me. So we went to dinner, drank champange, and then as we were approaching the golden gate bridge he took me outside to 'look at the views'...he got down on one knee and the rest is history :-) It was all pretty cliche, but for him to even plan any of that was pretty special because he has never made Valentine's Day plans like that...or any romantic date night for that matter lol, I'm definitely the 'planner' in the relationship!

Here's what I posted on our wedding website:

We had been talking seriously about a future together for several months, but still needed to make it "official". With Valentine's Day approaching, Jason wouldn't tell me what our plans were, only that it would involve food. (Which is good, because I like to eat!)

When I got to his house that night, the windows were so dark I thought at first he had put paper over them. Not knowing if we were going out or staying in, I had worn some dinner-appropriate clothes to work that day but brought a pair of jeans just in case. He opened the door, and I quickly figured that we were staying in. The house was dark, but candles were lit throughout the kitchen, dining room, and living room. He had made a playlist of romantic music that was playing on his iPod. The house smelled delicious, as there was a lasagna coming out of the oven, along with a side of asparagus and a salad on the table. He had also opened a bottle of wine from Biltmore Estate that we purchased on a trip for our one year anniversary the previous May.

After a delicious candle lit dinner, it was time to exchange gifts. I gave Jason his first - nothing too special: a few different kinds of candy and a propane gauge for his grill. He had already given me a bouquet of red roses and a heart shaped box of candy when I arrived. He had one more bag for me to open. There was a jewelry box on top, and when I opened it, there was a candy ring pop in it! He said, "Well, you've been saying you wanted a ring!" I gave him a rather curious look, and he told me to look in the bag again. I pulled out another jewelry box, but this time the box was empty. After a very long pause, he pulled the engagement ring out of his shirt pocket, got down on one knee, and gave me a very nice, heartfelt speech before asking me to be his wife. At first, I was too overcome with emotion to say yes, so I just nodded. But he eventually made me say yes verbally before he would put the ring on my finger!

Aww, I am tearing up reading these! It’s good to take a moment to remind ourselves of what all this craziness and planning is ultimately for – also, we are getting married SO soon!

Okay, so James and I got engaged on New Year’s Eve at a casino-resort at the beach – they have a big NYE party that we go to every year (this was James’ first time).

All weekend long he kept joking about giving me a ring, asking me to marry him, etc. At first it was funny but then it started to get annoying because he was seriously doing it all day and night for two days straight. I was like, dude, there’s a point where joking about something like that is not funny, it’s mean.

So fast forward to the NYE party and James is continuing to make jokes at the table about switching out my ring (just a costume ring) for a “different” one, and I continue to be annoyed. Then, right before midnight, we join the crowd on the dance floor for the countdown and champagne toast. We’re yelling the countdown and James hands me my champagne flute, which I take a drink of with him staring at me. After I took the first drink, he’s like “I think there’s something in your glass.” So I start fishing around and low and behold – it’s a shiny engagement ring J

I just remember screaming over and over “ARE YOU SERIOUS??” and he couldn’t stop laughing. Somehow the band (a really awesome Animal House themed band) heard we got engaged and they pulled us up on stage and they plus the crowd all congratulated us – it was awesome! And they had us stay up there while they sang “Sweet Caroline.”

We ended up spending the rest of the night gambling, separately, because he was winning at poker. We finally went back to our room at four a.m., and only because I fell asleep at a slot machine – LOL.

Oh, and he told me later he was making all those ring jokes because he was super nervous and wanted to be really sure that I was going to say yes and was having a hard time figuring out exactly when to ask me, and how.

Awwww you guyssss! I just love reading all these<3

FI and I had been talking about making it official for a while and we even got a ring but agreed he would give it to me when he felt like the time was right. Fast forward to Christmas Day. It's tradition for my whole family to all get together at my aunts house for breakfast and then we gather in the living room to distribute gifts and open them. Well the gifts were pretty much all out and FI says "oh!!!" And stands up really fast like he forgot to grab his drink or a gift or something. I look to my left and when I look back FI is on one knee in front of me and all I could think was omgosh no way NO WAY. He asks the magic question and I was just crying all over and nodding like a maniac. My aunt made him ask again so she could record it lol. FI said he was going to wait until New Years when we were planning to go snow boarding and ask me on top of the mountain but knew how much my family means to me and wanted them to share in the moment<3

We went out to eat at Olive Garden(my faaaaavoritest restaurant!).
I kinda figured what was up, because he was so nervous he could hardly eat...he looked like he was gonna throw up...(am I that scary?!lol) I started to get nervous because he looked so nervous. :-)
After eating my 'lishous food, a waitress came bringing an adorable platter with chocolate covered strawberries, and cute little glass of mousse. With the ring stuck in a strawberry.  He then got on his knee and asked me to be his wife...everybody started clapping and cheering around us, and then I got to embarrassed to say anything, so I nodded my head. :-)
Turned out, 2 of the people that were clapping and had also just gotten engaged on the other side of the room, and so they came to watch. We looked at each other's rings(mine was the best in my opinion ;-)) and congratulated each other. :-)
Anyways, that is how mine went!

This is what I have written on our website:

Chris proposed on December 22, 2011. We were opening our gifts to each other before having to leave for our family Christimas celebrations the next day. As we were pulling the gifts out from underneath the tree, Chris grabbed one and told me I had to open it last. I had asked for a couple things that would have two or more parts, so I didn't think anything of it. The opening commenced and as we got closer to our last gifts, I could sense something was bothering Chris. He was acting very distracted and looked like he was going to be sick.  Finally, we were each down to one box. I made Chris open his first. It was a new watch that I had gotten him and I was very excited for him to open it, and in turn, very disappointed with his reaction. He wouldn't even try it on! Feeling a little hurt, and very confused, I started to open my last box. It was small box that contained a round, flat, porcelain ornament with an engagement ring and the year "2011" stamped into it. I hadn't noticed, but as I was opening the box he had gotten off the couch and down on to one knee on the floor. When I looked up, he took my hands, told me that he loved me more than anything, and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. I was so shocked and crying so hysterically I nearly forgot to say yes. I pulled him in for a kiss and hugged him very tight.

When I pulled away, expecting him to dig an even smaller box out of his pocket, he went on to say that he didn't have my ring yet. The jeweler had not finished it in time for him to pick up on his way home from his business trip the night before and he hadn't had an excuse to leave the house and pick it up.  The good news was, it was done and ready to be picked up at the jeweler that morning. Seeing how I was still in my pajamas (and had frosting in my hair from the night before)! I ran upstairs, took the FASTEST shower of my life, got dressed and we dashed out the door to get to the jewelry store. Once we got there, it felt like an eternity as we waited for my ring to come out. The woman handed Chris the box, he opened it up, and as soon as I laid my eyes on the gorgeous ring I began to sob and I said yes all over again. The jeweler was also crying, and said she was so excited to see my reaction because she, "never gets to see this part."

    Awww.... so cute everyone!

FI & I had just gotten back from our vacation in Mexico (on a Monday) and had planned to go up to Santa Barbara wine country a couple weeks later. The Friday after we got back (4 days after we got back) I asked him why wait until the next weekend and we should just go the next day instead. He had zero reason to say no, so we went up the next day.

We were coming up on our favorite winery and he motions towards some vines and says "those sure are beautiful", I say "Duh, that's where we took pictures last year together", so he says "Really? Want to take a few more this year?". Sure. why the hell not.

So we get out of the car and start walking down the vines to get a good picture and he's walking behind me with his arms around my shoulders and then says "So I have something that I thought you might want to wear this weekend...." at this point I know what's going on because he's literally shaking. Turned around, and he's on one knee and asked me to marry him. I'm not a crier at all, so I just said "of course I'll marry you, silly!" And ta da! We're engaged. Apparently I messed up all his plans for the next weekend... oops!

FI was moving to a private school and I was only able to visit during the day unless we were engaged. So we made the decision to get engaged. We had been talking about it for months anyways. I went to find a ring I loved while he was OOT and when he came back we went together to get it. We picked it up a week later and he told me I had to wait until he was ready to propose. I turned around to walk to our bedroom he called my name and all of a sudden he was asking me. It is a simple story but realistically I am just as happy as if it were elaborate.

He took me to the Grand Illumination at the Scioto Mile and despite my best (accidental) efforts to thwart a spectacular proposal, he pulled it off and surprised me on the promenade. It will came as no surprise to my friends and family that I was wearing a Christmas sweater when he proposed.

After work we met along the river between our respective offices on Friday night. The Grand Illumination was running a little behind schedule so we walked a few blocks over to the tree lighting at Columbus Commons. After Santa flipped on the lights the sky filled with fireworks! It was perfect! He asked if I wanted to get a photo in front of the tree, thinking he would propose there, but I said no. So we walked back to the Scioto Mile where they still hadn't managed to turn on the lights. A few minutes later they did and we started to walk back to our cars. On our way along the river, he said he wanted to see the lights from the promenade. When we walked out I looked through the viewing scope and was shocked to find it pointed so she could see directly into the condos in the Miranova Building! As I urged him to look through the scope he grabbed me by the arm and said, "I want to ask you a question." And he did, and I said yes!

    ~xoxo~

I loved reading everyone's. My proposal was done without the ring. We were laying in bed one day after putting the boys down and out of no where he says, "I think it's time" and I asked time for what? And he said "time to make you my wife" and I laughed and gave him a kiss and said, yes dear after 7 years its time? Your totally kidding good night." I turned over to go sleep and he picked me up. Got on his knees over the bed and said for real, I love you, I want to be with you forever and I'm finally ready to let everyone know it. Will you be my wife. I giggled and said, of course. Then we went to sleep. I didn't think anything of it. The next morning, he went next door for breakfast with our neighbors and let me sleep in. My neighbor woke me up extra excited and said omg congrats your getting married. It was then that I knew he was serious. He seriously wanted to marry me, after 2 children and 7 years together he was ready to take a step that I never thought he would be ready to do. Wow! It was great. A few months later he asked my mom Nov 2011 and we told his mom January 2012 and went ring shopping February 2012, and here we are.
