DIY centerpieces at Reception Hall HELP!!!

I've been looking all over for an affordable florist to do my centerpieces for my wedding, and the numbers just keep racking up. So, I'm starting to think about doing them myself. The only problem I have is doing the set up and break down. I'm having a wedding at a catering hall,  Villa Barone in the Bronx, they have so many weddings they will probably have a morning wedding before me, So they don't allow you to set up the night before. Also, I don't think they do set up. I know other people have done their own centerpieces before so what have you guys done to set them up and break them down? Do you find friends to do it, do you hire them? If so, for how much? Not to mention I can't do it myself because I wont have time.

Hire a day of coordinator and they will take care of everything for you, but then again, you might as well spend that at the florist to just make the centerpieces for you. I guess either way you would be spending money. You can always price around and see what would work out best. I cant offer any more advice as I had my florist take care of everything. Maybe a way to cut the cost would be to do half the tables as tall centerpieces and the other half short? Is that an option for you? I know that would save a ton! Good luck!

We had an issue with our original wedding venue, so we needed to switch and lost some money in the process. We had already contracted our florist, and just went back to meet with her this past weekend to try and cut down the costs.  She was able to knock about 500 off right away by having us switch our centerpieces.  We went from a 4" cube with roses, carnations, and some other stock flowers to ikea bolby lanterns (we buy ourselves & drop off to her, $8 a piece), rose petals on the table, 2 votives and two bubble balls with a floating flower in them.  We could probably knock these down even further by cutting out the bubble balls, but we really like them and it helps.  My point is, it's really easy to set up, and day of coordinators can be expensive.  Do you have anyone who is not in your party but has an eye for detail (cousin, friend, aunt?) that could help set that up? If we weren't able to do it through our florist, I was going to have 2 of my cousins help out.  Just a thought!

Can you consider using candles ? We used candles and one flower (large rose) with beads etc - it worked really well - it was also easy to set up and friends helped with adding the flowers
