We got back the RSVP from FI's BM this week. He's single -- totally, completely, absolutely, single. We invited just him, no guest. Partly that was because he lives in Florida, we live in PA, and he's coming up to visit family for two weeks before the wedding.
The RSVP is for him "+ one." I look at that, and I say to FI, "Uhm, who is BM bringing? Does he have a GF we don't know about?"
FI says, "No, but does it matter? You said WP gets special privileges, so let him bring a date."
Me: "I don't care if he brings a date, but I need to know her name."
FI: "Why? Why does it matter?"
Me: "Because otherwise, I will have to fill out the escort card, 'BM's date,' and that is rude, and I am not doing that, I need her real name."
FI: "Oh. Fair point."
Oh, also? His bachelor party (golfing) is happening the Friday night before the Sunday wedding.
So he texts his BM and asks for the date's name. BM responds, then says, "Yeah, and she's coming up with me on Friday. I told her she could hang around with HisGirl, that cool?"
Uhm....no. No it is not. I am not a social committee, I am not an entertainment committee, I am not a babysitter. I am not spending the two days before my wedding entertaining the BM's plus-one, a woman I have met one time who is prickly and very difficult to deal with and super-opinionated about EVERYTHING.
I told FI, "I'm sorry, but no. I already have a list of things to do those two days -- including a hair trial and setting up the reception venue -- and I don't have time to babysit a guest. If he's bringing her two days early, it's his job to figure out what to do with her."
FI, blesshisheart, said, "Yeah, I already told him that was a no-go and that he needed to make alternate plans for her."
I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
