Maids and Men both in Navy? Bad idea?

For a long time we have wanted our wedding colors to be navy and green.  Since we are doing it in the fall, I was thinking more of an emerald green.  But now I'm not sure what to do! I want my men to be in navy suits because I love the way they look.  But I also think that I want my girls in navy dresses.  That is far too much navy though and navy's are hard to match. Should I change my colors? Or try to find emerald dresses? I don't know what to do! Please help!

You don't need to match the BM's dresses to the GM's suits.   My BMs were in black and the GM were in black tuxes.     At no time did I ever think that the blacks needed to coordinate.

If your FI wants the GM in navy then that's fine (really, the attire is his choice).   If you put both in darker navy colors you should be fine.    Remember, no one is going to worry about clashing from person to person.  (this is the same reason why I think the groom wearing a cream shirt if you're in a cream dress is dumb).

Navy suits for the GM and navy dresses for the BMs will look something like this:

I, personally, like that more than having emerald dresses for the BMs when the groomsmen are wearing navy but it is up to you and your FI.

Like others have said, your FI should pick the groomsmen attire.

Navy suits will be difficult to rent...so it would likely require a purchase. Your FI will need to make sure his groomsmen can afford to pay $200, minimum, for a navy suit. Otherwise, you and FI will need to purchase the suits yourselves if you insist on this specific look.

Our colors were navy and ivory with a bright green as our accent color. Girls wore navy dresses (Ann Taylor - silk georgette, short, any style). DH chose black suits for the GMs. Buying the suits was about $30 more than renting a tux, so the GMs wanted to do that instead. We bought ivory ties that had a thin navy blue stripe for them to wear. We incorporated the green in flowers and my shoes.

I think navy blue suits would have looked really good, too. I don't think it'd be too much navy. If you want to incorporate emerald, have the girls carry flowers with that color and get the GMs emerald ties. Here are a couple of options I found googling:

Love the navy suits but I would put your BMs in another color, it will look better in photos. Green is nice or try Burgundy for the fall. A consideration can also be champagne. The color is a compliment to Navy and will break the monotony and darkness of the navy. Just a thought:) Also navy suits are difficult to rent- Unless money is not an issue, they can buy them.
