Putting names on response cards

I'm making my own invitations and response cards. Is it weird to have them with the person's name already filled in? So it would look like this:

Mr. John Smith   ____ will attend  ____ will not attend
Mrs. Jane Smith ____will attend   ____ will not attend

I know some people have said people add people on or forget to write their name in. I have a very small invite list so I thought this would remedy all those problems. What do you guys think?

Would the names be printed on in the same way as "will attend" and "will not attend"?  If so, I think that is fine.  If the name part would hand written by you and the other parts printed, I think it would be kind of odd.

No it would all be printed. Nothing would be hand written.

Then I think you're good.  No way people can RSVP with their kids, etc.

I think if you can swing it, time and effort wise, it is an excellent idea! Bc like Doeydo said it will be more difficult for them to make the error of RSVPing for others not invited :)

I think you're fine with this-in fact, I think it's better than letting guests write names in because otherwise they may include the names of uninvited guests.  That could still happen of course, but this clarifies exactly who is invited.
  • One question, how would you list out any plus one's you might be giving (if you are)?

Of course John Doe and his girlfriend Sally Smith would both be written out, but what if Bill Jones is truly single and you are giving him the option of a guest?

    Would it be:

Mr. Bill Jones             ____ will attend  ____ will not attend
Mr. Bill Jones' Guest  ____ will attend  ____ will not attend

and then just hope he lists her name?

I am definitely leaning towards something like this on my RSVP cards but I have a LOT of truly singles and am giving plus one's to all.

I do not know if this is proper etiquette, but if you did something like this........
Mr. Bill Jones       _____will attend   _____will not attend
and his guest ______________________        ____will attend     ____will not attend

it might prompt your single guests to fill in the blank with the name of their guest.

Or, use what you currently have, and add an additional line....

Mr. Bill Jones             ____ will attend  ____ will not attend
    Mr. Bill Jones' Guest ____________________
                                     ____will attend   ___will not attend

Obviously, if there is any way possible, it is best to find out the name of the guest prior to filling out the invitations.  However, at the very least, make sure to have the name for when you create your escort cards.

It amazes me that there are people out there that can't read an invitation properly and would add additional people!

FWIW, we had just over 100 people attend our wedding.  We let the guests fill in the cards.  Not one wrote down additional names.  I guess we were lucky.

@mobkaz had some good ideas. The only people invited to our wedding that aren't in relationships are my grandma and my brother and neither one of them want a plus one because they don't have anyone they would want to bring. We are only inviting about 30 people so that cut down a lot on the chance of us not knowing who someone might bring.

We wrote the names in. For the few who hadn't yet decided who their +1s were, we just put "and guest."
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14
