Maine

Maine Honeymoon

Hello everyone! I am planning on taking my honeymoon in New England. The first leg of the trip will be in Nantucket, but I'm having trouble figuring out where to go next. We were thinking Kennebunkport and then Bar Harbor. Do any Maine natives have other ideas? While in Nantucket we will be very isolated, so we are looking for a hotel where we can walk into town and grab dinner if we need to. I'm totally open to other towns and ideas, anything would help! Thanks in advance :)

Ahh, so many choices! When will you be here? Bar Harbor is very seasonal, so if it's not the summer time, it's pretty much dead.

I'm not too familiar with Kennebunkport, but Portland would be a great city to visit, especially if you're looking for walkability and lots to do. There are a lot of hotels right downtown, so you could walk to shopping and dinner, etc.

I've always really liked the Rockland/Camden area. It's smaller, right on the coast, but really cute downtowns, great restaurants, scenic places, whale watches, etc. There's a resort called the Samoset that is nice, but also a lot of smaller inns that would be cute and probably closer to downtown.

    Hope that helps! Good luck!

MinMin always has good advise..Kennebunkport/Ogunquit area is very nice...also seasonal...Portland wold be best as far as things to do and options for Resturants ...like she said very walkable...make sure you stay in the Old Port area in Portland. If you do chose to stay in camden the Heartstone inn is a B + B they have a wonderful facility and great staff!

oh Sorry for the Double post...but the Portland Harbor Hotel is one of the only Hotels right in the heart of the Old Port in Portland...the Eastland is right there aswell...but its not as nice as the Portland Harbor hotel...the eastland is getting old

    Hope that helps!

Depending on the time of year you are getting married, Moosehead Lake is really nice and you can rent out a campor stay at one of the B&B's.  Also there is Katadin and Baxter state park if you are into hiking and white water rafting and what not, they have a whole outdoors adventure area up there and it's really pretty.

In September I would definitely recommend Bar Harbor. If you haven't booked a hotel yet stay at the Bar Harbor Inn. They are right on the water and only a short walk from downtown Bar Harbor. My FI and I go there every year in the fall and we are considering honeymooning there as well after our 9/25/10 wedding. Good luck!

I third (or fourth) the portland suggestion.  Old Port area is great for walking around and relaxing, which is what we are all going to need after "the big day".
