since the knot community is international - is it customary in your culture to change your last name to your future husband's? will you do it? do you think the change will come easily mentally?
I personally have mixed feelings. My nationality is Latvian and I'm marrying an American with Croatian roots and last name. my current last name has never once been pronounced correctly in the three years I have spent here. FI comes close to getting it right, but the intonations are still off. so even though his last name is atypical, it comes off as interesting not weird like mine does. But then again when I'm at home I have a last name that is considered rather beautiful and meaningful. and his in Latvia would be total giberrish...
but I'm still changing it and the more I think about it the more right it seems to me. I guess it comes down to the fact that I've always seen that as a part of the deal. something that ties us together.
