Hotel rooms: On or Off the Strip??

Hi! I'm brand new to the Vegas boards!

My uncle's friend just offered to give us a deal on his country club in Henderson, so we have changed all of our plans to have a Vegas wedding!  Many of our friends/family are coming from NYC, LA, and MD. Although the actual venue is 15-20 minutes away from the strip, we would like to offer a block of hotel rooms on/very near the strip.  We want it to feel like a mini-destination wedding and would like the convenience/amenities of hotels on the strip (pool, casino, etc). Is this the way to go? My uncle thinks that using a hotel closer to the venue would be better, but I'm not convinced. Thoughts and suggestions would be super helpful!

  • Welcome to the board!!

I would do both...but for sure something on the Strip!

Most guests will likely book where they have stayed before of where they can get a discount.

  • Thanks guys!

How far in advance do you book these? Any recommendations?
  • Generally speaking, you cannot book a room until 912 month beforehand. However, I think you can set up room blocks prior to that
  • Guests may not be prepared for what cabs cost in Vegas, and the bus system (in my opinion) sucks, so I'd recommend letting guests know in advance what their expected transportation costs will be if they stay at the resort but want to go to the strip, etc.

I think it might depend on what type of resort you're considering. We were married at the Revere in Henderson and got a room block at Green Valley Ranch. Almost all of our guests stayed there and everyone seemed to love the resort, even though it was off strip. This was the only place we blocked rooms at, we did let people know how far it was in advance. We also provided round trip transportation from GVR to the wedding.

  • Welcome to the board! How long do you think your guests will stay in Vegas for? Just the weekend of your wedding or is it a long weekend/ do you expect people to stay a little longer. For someone staying just one night I am sure it would be nice to just stay where the party is, but if people are staying longer I would suggest a hotel on the strip and you could get a bus on the day of your wedding and transport everyone down to the ceremony. How many people are you going to invite? Age range?

<div>Hi, thanks! We are hoping to have about 75-100 people.  Most of our people are on the younger side and most of them are performers (lots of NYC and LA folks).  I think most of them will use it as a mini vacation, so the strip feels more conducive to that. I love the idea of transporting them to/from the wedding.  We will have some older family, but ratio of old to young is small. I guess my vision was always to  have us on/very close to the strip, but wasn't sure if it would be affordable??</div>
