Getting in Shape

Anyone else in the same boat?

So I've never been a small person, but here lately I've been trying really hard to get healthier and it never seems to work.  Well now with a wedding a year away I really want to see if I can get in better shape and live a healthier lifestyle for me and my FI to start our lives together.

My question is (and it may have been posted before) are there any other ladies out there looking to lose 50+ pounds?  I am down 7 pounds so far, but I'd love to lose quite a bit more!  Help me out ladies!  Share your stories or get on here and support each other if you're in the same boat!  :)

Re: Anyone else in the same boat?

  • Hi!  I'm definitely in the same boat.  Were getting married in May of next year...sounds like yours might be around the same time!  I just weighed today....for the first time in too long and I need to lose a minimum of 52 pounds to be in the shape I want to be for my wedding...it's definitely doable...a couple of years ago I lost a whopping 93 pounds and was happier then ever before...met my hubby to be a few months later and have let myself go a bit...lot's of dinners out and eating fun (fattening) stuff together...but that HAS to stop!

It'd be great if we could support eachother here on this board and otherwise!

Good luck to you and CONGRATULATIONS!!

  • I also want to lose 50 lbs. I've gradually gotten bigger and bigger through out my 20s and now with the wedding at the end of the year I just want to get in shape and live healthy once and for all. I started working out regularly in January and then I joined weight watchers last week to help with the food end of things. I lost 2.6 pounds my first week on WW and 9.8 lbs and one clothing size since I started.

  • Hey girls..me too I was down 10 pnds away from my goal when me and my FI got together and we ate so much junkfood we have both gained weight!!! So now back to diet and excersize and hopefully since we are doing it together it can be a life long change for the both of us  (its hard to get use to other ppl routines I guess lol) ...

So i def want to lose 50 for my wedding but id settle for 45 lol.....Lets do this ladies!!!!
  • When I started 4 months ago I had between 80-90lbs to lose (I won't be able to tell for sure til I get to the smaller goal if I need to lose more). So far I have lost 40. You can definitely do it, just keep working!
  • When I started my diet and exercise program, I needed to lose 140lbs to be out of health risks range. I also set a practical goal, a wedding one and then one for after the wedding. Since January I have already lost 50lbs.  And our wedding is a year away from today! It is very do able.  You just need to start. Try and find the best diet plan/program for you and then start moving! I work out about 5 times a week. And am very strict about my diet. I only waiver during holidays and special events.  But I make sure to make smart choices there and not over do it.  I am doing LA Weight loss program, that I did in the past, and it works for me.  Plus there is no cost because I have all the info. So figure out if you need a plan where its prepackaged food or grocery shopping and stick to it! Good Luck!

  • Hey guys, I've been following this diet plan that goes with a cleanse on
    www.recleanse.com

It's really specific and really great. It FORCES you to think about your food choices and portions. Turns out I was eating waaay too much meat and useless carbs (no fibre white rice, pasta, etc.) and way to little veggies and fruit.

    Good luck!

[QUOTE]In Response to Diet plan : BOOO. This is terrible advice.  Anything that involves a cleanse is NOT sustainable. The rest might be helpful (eat more veggies and fiber, etc.) but NO to the cleanse idea.

Agreed! We don't promote quick fixes on this board! They are unhealthy.
  • *waves* I'm aiming for a 100 pound weight loss. Since late January, I've lost 23 pounds. Good luck everyone!

  • Since March 2009 I've been steadily getting healthier by creating 2 rules for myself!- #1) I had to work out at least 4 days a week, #2) I couldn't get off the excercise machine until I had read the magazine cover to cover. I subscribed to 2 magazines and my workout buddy subscribed to 2 different magazines so that we could swap all the time. I have not only lost 15% of my body weight, but I have also kept it off! Good luck, I know you can do it too!

  • I am definitely in the hunt for a 50 pound weight loss.  I started shortly after getting engaged on Christmas.  Since January, I have lost 26 pounds.  It has been a bit difficult, but the change was welcomed!!!  I'm now walking 4 days a week, minus 1 week because of a terrible stomach sickness.  I bring my lunch and sometimes dinner to work EVERY day.  I pretty much felt like I was starving for the first month or so, but now, I am very well adjusted.  The eating part has been very easy to get in check, but it was the working out that has been the most difficult part.  I'm very lucky to live in Austin and I literally drive over Town Lake every day which has an amazingly well kept trail that gives you options of walking 5 miles or 3 miles in a loop.  So I have now adjusted myself to bringing all of my workout clothes with me, and rather than sit in traffic for an hour trying to get home, I change at the salon before I leave, sit in NO traffic at all, walk my 3 miles or 5 miles, depending on what time it is, and then go home, once again hitting NO traffic!  It is THE BEST change I have made, pretty much ever!

  • Thanks girls!  I love hearing all of your stories!  I am definitely against making this feel like a "diet" this time... I'm aiming for more of a healthier lifestyle, as well as my FI is... we bought the Biggest Loser Family cookbook and a Healthy Girl 200 recipies under 200 Calories this past weekend... We tried the bbq bacon meatloaf, which I recommend... and we're looking forward to trying more!  I just am watching portions, trying to sneak in more fruits/veggies, and making substitutes for higher calorie/fat foods to more lean meats etc.  I also try to get in 3-4 workouts a week (which is tough to do right now considering its finals week and I have to defend my thesis this week so I can graduate on Saturday!) and my FI and I are trying out tennis on the weekends... we both are terrible but it gives us a workout chasing after the balls lol.

Anyways, I'm down 7lbs, which doesn't seem like much, but my jeans are already going on easier.  I was so disspointed when I thought I would have to go up another size, but I just told myself "its not an option" if I went up a size then I'd go up 2 sizes and then 3 and then I'd be more miserable than I was.  It's tough, there are days when I want to scarf down french fries or a candy bar, but then I remember how many calories it would take to burn that at the gym and it usually deters me from eating it (that's over a 1/2 hour on the elliptical if you're wondering lol)

Keep up the good work girls, lets try to keep in touch and update each other of our progress!

Any other healthy tips help as well (oh, I have tried out fitday.com as a way of tracking foods/exercise if any of you want to check it out... and its free)

I can so relate to so many of these stories!!!  The whole, "I was doing well and then I started dating my fiance and we gained.." The whole beginning dating process has always been so fattening for me!!  What do you do when you start dating?  Go out to dinner, get ice cream, etc.

So, unfortunately I am in the same boat.  Its so frustrating when I think about it.. 2 years ago I had 20 pounds to lose and it would have been so quick and easy.. now I have almost 70 to lose (or had, from the beginning almost 70) and it makes me wish I had just lost the stupid 20 two years ago!!!

::Sigh::  Anyway, I have been working on the Full Plate Diet (not a crash diet) as well as C25K (and now moving on to C210K).  Its working for me mostly.. I've lost 25 pounds since January 3.  I still have trouble on the weekends or special occassions though, which I am trying to work through.  I also find I cheat about twice a month with alcohol.. and once the alcohol gets in me the diet all goes to hell!  Haha.  I still have 44 pounds to lose and sometimes it seems like its just so much!  It can be so overwhelming.

I've just started lurking on this board recently and I am really hoping to spend some more time on it.  I love the tips and support.  Thanks for that, ladies!
