Need your Ohio planning tips!

Hey Ohio brides, I need your planning secrets. Basically, what planning tips would you give to other brides in the area? Maybe where to take great photos in Ohio or a non-chain place in your city for honeymoon lingerie, a great place for a day-after brunch or where to take advantage of local food? Any tips that are unique to your area for brides and grooms. Tell me what’s up. Thanks in advance and have a great week! KA

Basically, what planning tips would you give to other brides in the area?
My first piece of advice would be: Make room in your budget for a wedding planner!  Also, don't let yourself get overwhelmed.  It is easy to get too deep, just pace yourself and make sure that you only take on a few things a week.

Maybe where to take great photos in Ohio or
DF and I plan on doing an engagement shoot in the Short North.  It offers views of the river and tons of other cool backdrops for amazing pictures.  We did an engagement shoot in the snow in a park in Pickerington and the pictures were beautiful =)

a non-chain place in your city for honeymoon lingerie,
I will be getting my lingerie from The Garden.  They also have a shop next door called The Chamber which is more S&M.

a great place for a day-after brunch or
We are going to have our day-after brunch in the hotel's restaurant where we are getting hitched.  I think there are TONS of great options in Columbus though! Other places we were considering: Katzinger's, the Claddaugh Pub, and Due Amici.

where to take advantage of local food?
Many vendors, especially in German Village, are making it a priority to buy local.  I know Pattycake Bakery is one of them, and Enticing Icings is another baker that focuses on local support.

Any tips that are unique to your area for brides and grooms.
There are SO many wedding opportunities in Columbus! Enjoy the ride =)

    my tips:
    1. start early. the best vendors in columbus (especially downtown venues) book over a year in advance.
    2. there are an abundance of incredible photographers in the area.
    3. columbusbride magazine has a grid list in the back that shows  all wedding venues across the city and shows rental fees, average price per meal, location and other great info. this is how many brides narrow down their venue choices.
    4. look for hidden gems. there are lots of galleries in the short north and restaurants in german village that do not advertise that they can host engagement parties, rehearsal dinners and receptions but do in fact have great spaces
    5. here are some links to some of our recent threads on favorite vendors:

Basically, what planning tips would you give to other brides in the area? Shop around.  There are a ton of very inexpensive and unique venues in the Central Ohio area.  If you're on a budget check out the Columbus Parks and Recreation website.  There are actually a ton of golf course locations that you can rent for very cheap.  It will give your wedding a country club feel on a shoe string budget.  Also, negotiate prices.  Never pay the price that is quoted.  Do your research and know what you're talking about when you receive quotes, don't be afraid to bargain.  Why pay full price if you don't have to?

Maybe where to take great photos in Ohio:  I've seen amazing pictures from people taking them in the Short North.  Also, along the river downtown.

A great place for a day-after brunch or where to take advantage of local food?  German village has Schmidts which is always amazing, Short North and the Arena District are always great options.  Grandview has some great restaurants as well.   Any tips that are unique to your area for brides and grooms.
