Too Much Inside Joke?

For our first dance, we are considering the song "You Really Got A Hold On Me" as performed by She & Him. The joke is that I hated him for years before we started dating. The song is so perfect for us, but I don't know if people will get it. Thoughts...?

    I personally don't know the song, but if it's something you're concerned about....perhaps start with a bit more 'traditional' of a song, then go into this one......good luck!:)

    Is that a cover of The Beatles song? If so I don't think people will think it's weird. After all, there are lots of sweet lyrics to balance out "You treat me badly, I love you madly".

    Right - that's why I said there are other sweet lyrics to balance that one out.

    I would advise you to stay away from inside jokes.  You could always still play the song at some point. But maybe not as your first dance.  Nobody will understand (hence inside joke).  So, choose something that is a little more traditional that still refelcts you and your FI. :)

    I personally think that it's your wedding day, and unless you add some of those things that are just for you, then you are focusing on making decisions based on everyone else, and not yourself.  Remember that it's your day, not everyone elses.  EVeryone may not get it, and if people ask, then you can explain it to them, but it's not their wedding day, it's yours.

    I'd go for it. The guests don't have to "get" everything and they aren't dumb, they'll assume that the song means something to you both and enjoy it.
