Vendor Reviews- June 2nd Wedding in Falmouth

I wanted to make sure that I posted vendor reviews after my wedding since I heavily relied on the reviews of others when booking my vendors that I used on Cape, so here it goes...

CHURCH - St. Patrick's: B+
I don't know if I'm supposed to rate a church but I'm going to anyways.  The air conditioning was broken and I did not like that there was no "I now pronounce you husband and wife, kiss the bride"  I was told that is not the priest who presides their's style, however, he is very nice and laid back.  I did get in an argument with one of the coordinators at the rehearsal over the walking order because we had differing opinions on how it should be, but it all worked out fine.

HARPIST- Katie Lynch Koglin: A+
We had Katie sing and play harp at the ceremony mass.  She has a beautiful voice and did an amazing job.  Everyone loved it.  She met with us to pick our songs and asked what the colors were for our wedding and I noticed that she was wearing navy blue which was one of our colors.

VENUE- Ballymeade Country Club: A
Christine, the coordinator there is amazing.  I did 99% of my decore DIY and provided her everything two days before.  I saw the reception room set up prior to everyone getting there and it was perfect.  It was just the way I wanted it to look.  She knows what she is doing there and the staff is great.  Ballymeade is beautiful with the seperate rooms for each part of your night.  We did not get married there, however, and got married at St. Patrick's Church downtown, but we did use the ceremony room for photos.  Many of our guests though the venue was very nice.  It can be a bit pricey, but is worth the money.

CATERING:-Eat Your Heart Out Catering:  A
I could not decide whether to give EYHO an A or an A-.  Their food is absolutely delicious.  Many of our guests were raving about it, especially the beef tenderloin because it was just that, so tender.  The hors de vours were amazing and Sean and his staff is very attentive the needs of the bride and groom.  During the night I was dancing, Jen, one of the coordinators for the catering company saw that I was sweating and in need of a drink and brought me over some iced water without me even asking.    They will work within your budget of what you want to spend per head.  The only complaint that I have is that sometimes they can be a little tough to get a hold of, i.e. no immediate return of an e-mail, but once you speak to them they'll get you whatever you need ASAP and are very organized with their contract, menu, and payments, so you have everything on paper.

CAKE - Delicious Desserts: A+
Lisa Raffael's cakes are absolutely amazing.  I loved her the second I met her.  Her cakes are so moist and fresh and beautiful.  And she is award winning!  At the end of the night the caterers boxed up the top and the left overs for us.  I hope that the top of the cake taste as good that night on our 1st anniversary.

DJ- Cape Tunes/Scott Rosenthal: A+++
I cannot say enough great things about Scott.  He keeps the party going all night and is a great DJ.  Not only that, but he gets back to you via e-mail within seconds, literally.  After you build a rapport with him you feel like he is your friend and not just playing your wedding for the gig.  Following the wedding, he sent me an e-mail and then I had a thank you card in the mail- I'm supposed to be the one thanking.  I would highly recommend him without a doubt.  A great guy and a true professional!

HAIR- I had my hair dresser from home travel to me, so I am not rating this.
NAILS- I got my nails done off cape in Mansfield, MA, so I have no rating on this for Cape birides.

LIMO: Robin's Limosouine- A
I used an off cape limo company out of Freetown, MA.  Robin's is reasonable and the limo drivers are very professional, assisting you in and out of the car, even fixing the train of your dress (in the church!).  They had the limo stocked with champagne and water.

FLOWERS: Lawrence Garden's: B+/A-
Mary at Lawrence Gardens is a sweetheart.  The flowers came out beautiful and they are reasonably priced.  My only complaint was that the corsages for the moms and the bouteniers appeared to be wilting at the end of the night, but the bouquets were fine.

PHOTOG: Shooting Star/Jim Abrams
Jim is off-cape.  I have not seen the photos yet, so I cannot rate, but he is attentive and I used him because I had recommendations from 5 people I personally knew that had used him before.

MAKEUP: Bellezza Day Spa- A-
The makeup came out very good and everyone looked beautiful, but they are pricey ($125 for bride, $85 for attendants) but they did travel to me.

  • We got married at St. Patrick's, Ballymeade reception too! Glad you liked it as much as we did-- Ballymeade really does a great job. It's so funny that you got into a fight with the St. Patrick's coordinator-- I did too! The rehearsal was the most stressful part of the whole wedding for me, and they did screwed up and put my divorced in laws together. Congrats on the wedding!
  • Thank you for posting these reviews.  I agree that it does help tremendously when you are planning.  We are getting married in August and the only vendor we are using the same as you is Scott from Cape Tunes.  I agree with how fast he is with e-mail and I'm so thrilled he was available for our wedding because I have only heard good things.  Well thanks again and congrats!!  It sounds like you had a beautiful day!!!

Married to my best friend!! 8/19/12

I stood my ground. They weren't going to have my in laws walked together and was going to have an usher escort the mom and dad would walk behind I was like no way.
  • Liane, you will love Scott!
  • Thank you so much for your review, We are getting married August 25th at Ballymeade and also using Eat Your Heart Out, so glad everything went so welll for you!
  • We got married at St. Patrick's and didn't have any problems with the wedding coordinators.  I made some changes to the way they wanted to do things and they didn't seem to mind at all.  We had a lot of family members with jobs for the wedding  and the coordinators were able to accomodate all of them, even those who could not attend the rehearsal.  I think St. Pat's does a lot of weddings so I can imagine things aren't as smooth every time but I was very happy with things.
