Is 6 too old?

Our original wedding date was going to be May 14, 2010.  We found out we were pregnant and had a quickie wedding in Ohio.  Now we are planning our vow renewal/wedding we never had/Church wedding on July 14, 2012.

Our baby is going to be our ring bearer, he'll be 2 at the time of the wedding.  Our friend's daughter, Alyssa, was going to be the flower girl for the '10 wedding.  She will be 6 in 2012.  Do you think she's too old to be a flower girl?

Our other option would be our niece, Brooke, who will be 2 1/2 in 2012.  However we're closer to Alyssa's mom than we are to Brooke's mom.  What would you do?

I was a flower girl for my aunts wedding when I was 8 so I don't think 6 is too old.  2 1/2 may be too young.

I don't think so either.  My brother and sister will be 11 and almost 10 at our wedding...I am giving them essentially the same duties as ring bearer and flower girl (but she'll carry a pomander) and am titling them junior GM/BM instead.

I actually think it's beneficial to have a child that is a little bit older.  Younger kids are cute, but who knows if they'll decided to kick and scream their way down the aisle that day :)

No, it's perfect. My flower girl just turned 6 before our wedding and I thought it was the perfect age. she was still young enough to look adorable but old enough to actually go down the aisle properly. I have heard of so many weddings where a younger child was either screaming/crying, refused to walk, or a bridesmaid had to carry her because the flower girl was too scared to go by herself.

Six is definitely not too old... it's kind of a perfect age for that sort of thing.  MUCH more predictable than a 2 year old!

That is true... She would be easier to teach.  Every other wedding I have been to though, the flower girl has been around 4, so I wasn't sure.  Thanks guys!

I think 6 is fine and actually easier because she'll listen more and understand what she needs to do besides walk down the aisle and look adorable.  My flower girl will be 5 1/2 when we get married.

Not too old at all! My FG's were 6 and 8 and my RB was just shy of 3.

I also agree with PP, six is just the right age for her to be able to understand directions and everything. I'd be a bit worried that the 2 1/2 yr old might start screaming or just stop in the middle of the aisle, haha.

I was wondering the same thing the FG I was thinking about will be 7 and she is kind of growing out of the cute stage and into the sassy phase. So I was thinking I would go with a younger kid but if you guys think 6 is good then maybe I will just ask here but if I see any sass she will be kicked out with the quickness lol! Gotta love kids

Woah! You really cannot, or should not, kick a 7 year old out of your wedding! Her feelings would be so hurt, and she is just a kid. Please don't ask her unless you are willing to accept the fact that once you ask, she will be in the wedding, regardless of whether or not she has any 7yr old "sass" going on.

My flower girl will be 7 at our wedding.  I think its a perfect age because they really know what they are supposed to be doing.

Our flower girls will be 4 and 3 and I'm a little nervous that they will actually walk down the aisle. I think 6 is a perfect age.
