Unique/Casual Budget Friendly Venue anywhere in MA

Do they exist?!?!

Looking for an alternative to the typical banquet hall/country club feel without breaking the bank.  Ability to bring in own catering a plus.  Have looked at MA Horticultural Society and a few others suggested here but all come with a $5k rental price, which I'm not really willing to spend.  Taking suggestions for anywhere in MA, Southern VT, Southern NH and the NY/MA border.

Barns a plus as well.

If anyone has gone the public park route doing a bbq etc - any suggestions on ones that would work? I am open to that idea but am not sure what resources there are out there for figuring out what places are open to that.

Thanks in Advance!

I have been to a wedding at Camp Kiwanee in the needles lodge and it was really nice. They charge $2,250 which includes the 5 hour function and 3 hour set up. You can pretty much bring in everything else yourself.

Thanks! So far that has been the only thing I've seen come up that doesn't look completely cheap! Glad to hear someone has enjoyed a function there before I set up an appointment to go look.

We're doing ours at the Pierce House in Lincoln, MA. It's $2500 for a Saturday, you'll need a tent, but they allow you to share so its ending up to only cost around $900. You can bring in your own caterer. There's also the Codman Estate in Lincoln that's even less expensive.

We're having our reception at the Endicott Esate in Dedham. It's town owned, so you're allowed to bring in whatever caterer you'd like, but they do require you to hire a bartending service separately--there were 4 on the list. You can bring in your own alcohol, which also helps. We had narrowed it down to the Endicott Estate, Commander's Mansion in Watertown, the Pierce House in Lincoln, and the Paine Estate (Stonehurst) in Waltham. All four were pretty reasonable for a Sunday.

Oh, I forgot to mention--the State Bookstore has a Historic Places for Historic Parties booklet; there a ton of places in there that I had never even heard of. I'd say it's worth giving them a call and asking about it: http://www.sec.state.ma.us/spr/sprcat/catidx.htm

The Hoosic club in Milton. Also check out the community boat house in Boston. I don't remember the price but it seemed reasonable.

We're doing our reception at the Squantum Yacht Club in Quincy.  It's right on Wollaston Beach.  You bring in pretty much everything yourself, except beverages/bartender.

Thanks Everyone! These are great suggestions!

I'm sure it's not for everyone but we are having our wedding at SpringStep in Medford. It's a dance studio that's a little funky. http://springstep.org/?q=facility_rentals You get to pick all your own vendors... I'm still trying to decide if that's a benefit or not :)

Are you finding it difficult to work with the Endicott Estate since they changed owners? I'm afraid to even make an appointment to look at the place fearing they'll be too disorganized. When I called recently, the gentleman I spoke to was clearly jaded and told me he was being fired after 25 years. I'm afraid if I get married there they won't have their sh*t together

We're thinking of using the Boylston Schul-Verein (German Club) in Walpole, MA.  It's definitely what you make it, but allows outside vendors.  http://www.germanclub.org/Rentals.aspx

Has anyone attended a wedding at Camp Kiwanee? I toured there and liked it but am wondering about how guests enjoyed it etc.

Sorry, I didn't see this until now! I don't believe they've changed owners--it's still owned by the Town of Dedham. We started out working with Ginny, who recently retired, but Dorrie who worked with Ginny for years, has taken over. She's been very nice and helpful so far. I am not quite sure what's been going on (I do know there was a debate about having a private company take over the management of the Estate, but I believe that was voted down.), but we haven't noticed a difference so far...I'll let you know if we do.

    Hi Julie,
Did you end up going with the German Club?  I booked my wedding there for this September so I am very curious, please let me know!
