Hula lessons??

Has anyone taken hula lessons on Maui?  I thought it would be fun, maybe learn a dance for FH ;)

Have not done it...but I agree.  Sounds like lots of fun.

I dance here on Oahu, but there are halaus EVERYWHERE - you'd be surprised.  Here's a link to hula schools all over:

www.mele.com. You can probably find a Kumu who will teach you how to dance a song for your fiance.

You can find a song to dance to on huapala.org (they provide the translation).

Some I'd suggest is anything by Kealii Reichel (beautiful, beautiful music).  When we got engaged, I danced Pua Ahihi for my fiance, and at our wedding I will be dancing Pua Lili Lehua (Sean Na'oao's version) to him (my favorite song and signature song of my halau).  Another pretty song is Ke Aloha.

"Pua" is the hawaiian word for flower, and generally when a song is about a flower it is about the person you love - Hawaiian music is all about comparisons.  It's the same way with birds and rain -- when there is a song about birds, rain or flowers it is usually about a person :)
