Pennitential Rite and Gloria

Did you have the Pennitential Rite and the Gloria at your wedding mass?  Ring Pop and Allison, I was looking at your programs and they are not included.  Is this not part of the wedding mass?  Furthermore, if it is included, should I include the words in the program?

Also, what about the Gospel Acclamation- the Alleluia?  Did you have that?  Did you put music in the programs for it?

Also, when does the Marian Devotion come in?  I don't know where to list it.

The penitential rite is not usually put in the program. These have different options that the priest usually chooses. The Gloria usually does not take place during a wedding mass. The gloria is usually only used on Sundays (not during advent or Lent) and special feast/holy days/ solemnities. If you are interested in having it in your mass, talk to the priest.

The Gospel acclamation is a short acclamation which is the "Alleluia" or something different during Lent. Speak to the musician about how involved it is...probably not a need to put it in the program.

The Marian devotion usually happens towards the end of the liturgy. After Communion if in a Mass. Occasionally some priests will place it at the sign of peace, or immediately after the vows.

Thanks for all of your help on this.  I guess I'll have to talk to the priest and see when he wants to put in the Marian Devotion.

I don't think we had a penitential rite but I don't remember for sure. To be honest, I paid much more attention to the music. We definitely didn't have a gloria - as agapecarrie said, it's usually not part of a wedding, although I did once attend a wedding with a Gloria because the bride really wanted it.

We had a sung gospel acclamation but without a verse. The gospel acclamation can be read if you prefer to minimize the music. We didn't include the music for it because it was a pretty "typical" one.

Also, note that if you put any music in your programs, you need to be licensed for it. Ask your church's music director. You may be able to use the church's license. Otherwise you can purchase a one time license at onelicense.net.

I just figured out that you can "publish" a Word document as a website with Google Documents.  Amazing!

    So here is our program:

It's in Spanish and English, but the title of each section is listed in both languages, so you don't have to understand Spanish to follow it...  We used Microsoft Publisher to arrange it for printing in a booklet format.

It's a full nuptial mass.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Wow,  Thank you for posting that.  I can definitely use it to help with the programs.  How many pages were your programs?  How did you do them? Did you do it yourself or did you hire a company?

No problem ;)  The programs turned out to be 15 pages - but not 15 pieces of paper, since it was printed front and back on paper that was folded to make a booklet.  Does that make sense?  Look in my bio under the paper tab for a pic...

The formatting on Microsoft Publisher was a labor of love - i.e. a huge pain in the rear - but it was my first time using that program, so that could be why!

I just had them printed out a a Kinko's or OfficeMax on heavy ivory paper.  Then we assembled them at home.  Actually, at my wedding planner's home; thankfully, I had help...  I never researched printing companies because I wanted to be involved in some DIY ;)

Those are beautiful.  I can't tell, how did you bind them together?

Also, I love your invites.  Were those a DIY?

    Thanks!

For the binding, we lightly brushed a glue stick down the paper creases to keep the pages in place and then tied a ribbon around them.  I think we left an inch or so of the ribbon dangling at the bottom.  It's the same ribbon as on my ring pillow.  Pic in Ceremony tab.  Oh, and the outer cover was a heavier paper stock, nearly card stock.

About the invites, no those weren't DIY.  I ordered the English language ones (on the right) from from Renaissance Writings.  The Spanish ones were done by a company in Mexico.  Since I'm from the States and he's from Mexico, we each handled our own invites...  We did make sure they coordinated though :)

Also, we used the same paper from the programs for the menus and escort cards:  heavy ivory paper and a brown/bronze "sparkly" paper.  I found the sparkly paper in the scrapbooking section at Michael's.

That's great.  I absolutely love your ring pillow by the way.  It looks so regal with the tassels hanging off of it.

We're having both, and since the gloria is going to be sung, it's going in the program.

The gospel acclamation isn't, because we're only doing words, and I thought it would be silly to type "alleluia" 4 times.  Once it gets going, it's pretty self-explanatory.
