Gothic Weddings

Since this board has been a bit dead lately...

Although I wouldn't really describe myself as a "gothic" bride, I enjoy this board because we'll be incorporating a few things in the wedding that are both a little offbeat and may veer slightly into the gothic area.  So for the sake of posting something that might interest someone else, I'll share a couple things we plan to do.
For example, we plan to get married on 11/2/13, and 11/2 is All Souls Day, or Day of the Dead.  We both appreciate the Dio de los Muertos art and style, so we're incorporating that into our wedding, not as a theme, but just one or 2 small things.  Such as our cake topper:

Also, for one of our favors we'd like to have sugar skulls, either in sugar or white chocolate form:

Our colors are red and black, so the first cake above is pretty much what we'd like our cake to look like.  I envision the room with tall red rose centerpieces, and maybe some black lace overlays at some of the tables, on top of the white tablecloths.  I also came across a great DIY lace votive project some time ago that I think is lovely and looks easy to do:

These are some of the slightly more "gothic" elements of our wedding, just thought I'd share!  what are some of your ideas?  Please share!

  • Hi, new here! My wedding is going to be hot pink, black and white with a skull theme. So far all I've found that I really like for the theme are some awesome pink and black and white sugar skull cake toppers on Etsy.

Cute! That's such a popular motif right now (though not for weddings, I don't think, you're unique!) I bet you'll be able to find a lot of fun stuff.  What's your date?
  • Gabrielle, your venue is BEAUTIFUL!!!  Wow!  And your wedding date must be close to mine, we're doing it in November of 2013.  Love your ideas, and your dress inspiration!
If I end up doing the lace votives I'll have to post them on here.  We are just now starting to call around and see venues.

Klounder, welcome!  The theme you chose is really cool. I'm sure you'll come up with a lot of great ideas.
  • Our dates are very close, I'm doing mine at the beginning of January, 2014.

That was actually the first venue we looked at, and we haven't checked out another since, it was just too perfect in color and style, and they d the catering and have the tables and chairs already there as a part of it.  The one piece of wedding advice I was given consistently was to find a venue like that, because it means less to stress about.

Good luck on your search for venues, I'm sure you'll find something great! I took my photographer along when we went (she's also my moms bff) and that was really helpful because she troubleshooted the area a little, and was able to point out things to consider that my mom and I never would have.  If you know someone who does a lot of weddings stuff, I would take them along to be an extra (and well practiced) set of eyes and ears.

Are you going to incorporate the day of the dead look into the bridesmaids dresses at all? I've seen some absolutely stunning dresses that used a black lace look.
  • We're having a skull theme as well! It's going to show more in the paper elements than anywhere else, but the over all color scheme is black, ivory and gold with red flowers.

My ceremony venue, beautiful old church:

This is my reception venue (during the day, we're having an evening reception so there won't be much natural light plus black linens and all that good stuff):

    My centerpiece inspiration:

And I bought 2 dresses and am stuck on which one to wear:

I have TONS more pics, but they would take up a ridiculous amount of space. I have to post my invitations and escort 'cards' though, I LOVE them!

  • Utopia, I love your dresses, expecially the second one.  Also your escort cards are darling. :)

Nah, just black dresses, likely long chiffon, and the BM's can choose their own style.  The only DOTD pieces we'll have are the cake topper and the favors.  We just really don't want to go overboard with any theme.

First of all, my birthday is 11/2 and i had no idea it had any significants so thats exciting for me to find out. we're doing a  zombie/halloween theme and our colors are black purple and orange. It will basically be a big halloween party. Im not wearing a formal dress, i plan on getting an A-line prom dress that is purple and black. and the iron fist american nightmare purple heels!

Got any ideas for any activities or favors??? im starting to loose my mind trying to plan everything.

But i love your theme and that cake is beautiful!
  • @ Blackrose, thanks!
Personally, I'm a fan of edible/drinkable favors.  I feel like they won't go to waste.  If you're doing a Halloween party theme maybe you can make up some of the small trick or treat bags (I always get these at the dollar store) with some of your favorite candy.
