  Ok, I don't know enough of South Carolina to know what you call 'upstate", but geographically, Greenville is upstate, so here goes my two cents:

  We went to a wedding at the Courtyard by Marriott Greenville Downtown that was beautiful. It is an outdoor location, under a tent, that gave the most romantic atmosphere ever!!!! Check the pics: http://www.marriottcourtyardgreenville.com/).

  We stay at the Hampton Inn & Suites Greenville RiverPlace Downtown (http;//www.hamptoninnandsuitesgreenville.com/) and it was great. The location couldn't be better, walking distance from the venue and by river next to all the nice stores.
