  while bp is certainly a villain in all of this, the root problem is demand for oil. i hope this catastrophe causes people to wake the feck up and stop having so many kids. i could drive a fleet of hummers every day and still have an exponentially smaller carbon footprint than any parent.
  
  my guess is people will just keep doing whatever the hell they want, though. boo hoo about the poor birds, but i'll do what i want, to hell with the consequences!

  Sadly there's a very real chance that the last ditch effort -- the relief well -- won't work and that there will be absolutely nothing they can do to stop the oil.
  
  The terrifying thing is that many scientists are saying that they have the technology to close it up today, but tht it would be forever unusable. This is one of the largest wells in the world and they won't take such a drastic effort until someone bigger than them forces them to.
