NWR: Knotties Good Vibes

So with out going into detail so no one gets grossed out. I basically sliced my finger on a food slicer last night. Spent some time in the ER and they were unable to stich it (lack of skin) so I have to go to a hand specialist tomorrow to what they can do. I am lucky to have not lost any of my finer. But I am SUPER nervous about what they are going to have to do to fix it. Also, not to mention the risk of infection and all that goes with an open wound like this. I am a NERVOUS wreck!

Oh no!! Is it bandaged in anyway? Are you able to use your hand? I'm sure they will be able to figure out what to do! Sending well wishes your way :::::::

ouch.... I'm sorry that happened. Hopefully everything will be ok. My younger brother did the same thing and the Dr.'s did a skin graph. They took some skin from his thigh and replaced the skin that was shredded. He said that it wasn't too bad . Huh, I'm not sure if that helped you, it probably made things worse I'm sorry! I hope you feel better!

Uhh..  I am sorry that happened to you!  I hope that they can fix it.When I worked in a deli I cut off part of my right pointer fingertip. It was a teeny-tiny piece, but it still hurt like crazy.  The doctor told me that human lips and finger tips have the most nerve endings per square inch on the human body.  (Yes, those 2 body parts are even more sensitive then the human genetalia.)When I was at the ER, there wasn't enough fingertip cut off for them to bother to reattach it.  Instead they put this surgical mesh on the tip of my finger, so that the skin could have something to attach itself too while it regrew.  I got off work (workers comp) for about 2 weeks, and they gave me 10 percocet.  Once it healed I didn't really have any problems.  The only thing that bothers me that didn't before is using cheap pens.  I can't use the bic ones with the ridges (Like the cheap crap my work provides.)  I have to use the ones with the rubber cushion if I am going to be writing for a while.I STILL refuse to eat corned beef...I hope that you feel better soon!

Please don't be too nervous.  I've gone through over 20 hand and finger surgeries and although it scary, I've never gotten an infection.  Just make sure your finger is bandaged and comfortable as you can make it.  Hang in there and let me know if there is anything I can help you out with!  *HUGS*

Thanks Ladies! The doctor in the ER said I would most likely have to have the skin graph or the mesh thing for the skin to attach to. Taking the skin from another part of my body kind of freaks me out a little but I guess if it has to be done ... The doctor in the ER said that I was the 3rd on this week with the same injury. Everyone else was a meat slicer. LOL The finger is all bandaged up now. The doctor tomorrow will remove all the bandages and go from there. I'll post an update tomorrow after the appt. Thanks again ladies. Makes me feel better to know that other people have been through similar things and have made it through ok.

I'm glad you're feeling better about things!  I hope they don't have to take skin from another area, but it's not too bad.  When I was born, they used skin from the top part of my leg for my hands and you can barely see the scar.Sorry if it's TMI, just trying to be helpful.  :)*HUG*

Yikes! I am sorry this happened! My dad did the same thing on my moms food slicer about 20 years ago and to this day will not touch the thing (won't even wash it... that's how he cut it in the first place!) Now is finger is fine and you can barely tell anything happened... it was his pinky finger.  Good luck and keep us posted!
