They've really done some nice upgrades on the Waterfront along Queen's Quay... there's a little beach (Sugar), nice art installations, a big boardwalk, and lots of festivals/events:

That's all I can think of in the downtown core.

    Oh and maybe Toronto Island?

  • There's Centre Island, Canada's Wonderland and Ontario Place, Wild Water Kingdom, (amusement park), the museums like the ROM or the Bata Shoe Museum; High Park.  For shopping, Yorkville (where the stars/celebrities visit), Vaughan Mills, Dixie Value Mall, Heartland Town Centre; the Ontario Science Centre.  Also check out the theatres for musicals and plays.  The Danforth and Yorkville again for the different restaurants.

They can also take a road trip to Niagara Falls or Casino Rama. There's also Woodbine Race Track.
  • The Beaches area of Toronto in the beaches with Kew Beach. The area is lovely & very alive. The board walk is really nice & obviously the beach but the neighbourhood is nice as well & a lot of good restaurants to eat on the patio on and enjoy the day.

The ROM, Yorkville, Eaton Centre, Distillery District, Yorkdale Mall, Wonderland, take the ferry & go to the Islands.

  • This is what I prepared for our website.  (I don't know if the links will take here, but I embedded links in all of the listings so that people could click the link and see more).  Hopefully some of the ideas can work for you!

For the adventurous types, we will be quite close to Canada's Wonderland, an amusement park that can keep you busy all day! It will likely be crowded on the weekend, but if you're staying for a few days, it could be worth it!

If you just want to take it easy, there are several golf courses nearby, or perhaps you would like to walk around the historic Unionville area to enjoy the sights and sounds! If you're interested in getting some fresh, local food, you can go to one of many farms for pick-your own options, or just to stop by the farm shops, such as at Whittamore Farms or the Organics Farm we go to every June to pick lots and lots of strawberries. We made the mistake of doing raspberries in the large container we used for picking strawberries, and don't recommend it!

If you want to venture out of Markham to Toronto, there will be several things and places to check out (you may even want to consider getting the Toronto City Pass if you may are interested in visiting several attractions):

    • The CNE - this is where Rob and Emma had their first date! (While here, you can even go to Medieval Times, but you may want to check their site for deals)
    • The Toronto Zoo
    • Kensington Market - on the last Sunday of each summer month, the streets get closed down for "Pedestrian Sunday"; Emma recommends visiting Cobb's Bread for some delicious fresh baked goodies
    • Do some shopping: Toronto Eaton Centre, Vaughn Mills Mall or Yorkdale Mall
    • AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario)
    • ROM (Royal Ontario Museum)
    • CN Tower (if you're brave, you can even do the Edgewalk outside the tower!)
    • Toronto Islands (a nice way to spend a sunny day, though it does get busy on the weekends)
    • Visit our old neighbourhood on Danforth for some fun and interesting shops, such as: IQ Living (for the home), Moss (for the garden), Re:Reading (a lovely used bookstore), and Ten Thousand Villages (fair trade artisan items for the home)
    • Visit Casa Loma for an afternoon (some weekends, they even offer archery classes that you can pre-register for, if this interests you!) and then head next door to Spadina House where you can walk through the gardens
    • Attend a drop in clay-class at the Gardiner Museum
    • Learn more at one of Toronto's many museums
    • Visit Polson Pier to go to the Drive In, or go Go-Karting
    • Try your hand at rock climbing - Emma hasn't gone to the new location but has gone a few times when they were located on Broadview Avenue (a streetcar ride away from the old apartment)
    • Enjoy a walk through Toronto's Distillery District for unique shops and cafes, as well as theatre options and more! On summer weekends, they offer an Arts Market
    • Visit Downsview Park for various activities such as go-karting, rock climbing, trapeze flying at circus school, movies under the stars, and more!
    • For a morning of exploration at an indoor food market, you can go to St Lawrence Market (not open Sundays and Mondays), or even visit the farmers market (across the street) on Saturday's. In fact, Buskerfest will be happening this weekend at St. Lawrence Market
    • Get yourself down to the Harbourfront Centre for free events (like Thursday night ballroom dancing, Wednesday night movies, concerts in the Music Garden on Thursdays and Sundays, or a festival such as TaiwanFest on the wedding weekend)
    • Attend a show or concert at one of the many venues in the city!

For some additional places to see and visit, check out this link from Attractions Ontario, which also includes coupons for discounted admission to several places!

You can get a day pass for the TTC for around $10 - on weekends, this will allow two adults unlimited travel within Toronto for the day.

  • There's also the zoo you could suggest as well
