need help finding official to marry us...

hello! We have a bit of a problem. We were both raised Catholic, but we do not practice it anymore. Infact, we dont go to church at all. We are having our ceremony and reception on Sept 29th at the Crowne Plaza in Moon Twp, and I was wondering if anyone else had a christian, non denominational ceremony and if anyone recommends anyone. my email is leslie4886@yahoo.com if anyone as any info!

I can't recommend anyone, but was just going to say that me and my fiancee are also both not religious and have opted to do the self-unifying marriage, and then have a friend of our choosing officiate our wedding.  It's a great option that we're lucky for PA to allow.

  • We are doing a self-unifying licence as well (with a friend emceeing the ceremony). We're Heathens though, so I can't recommend a Christian officiant.
  • We didn't use him but I've heard good things about http://www.asimplevow.org/ We did not have a religious ceremony and used a JOP at our venue.

  • Yep, I'd say A Simple Vow or self-uniting with a friend/family member are your best bets. We contacted a few officiants at different churches, but they all required that we be members first (at the risk of getting flamed we found this even for the very liberal Unitarian Church in our neighborhood). Good luck!

  • We are getting married by the local Magistrate Judge the day before our wedding and a friend of ours is doing the ceremony the day of.

  • I am doing the same thing, only what I am wondering is what exactly to do for the actual ceremony?  I feel like there should be a little substance to the ceremony, only without all of the traditional/religious church rituals, I'm worried there's not going ot be much to our ceremony.  I'm trying to find a poem or something for someone to read, but other than that ... what do you fill the space/time with?
  • We're doing a self-uniting ceremony and plan to ask one of my aunts to "officiate" and keep things moving along. We are also asking some friends to do readings. I've found that this website: http://www.themarryingguy.com/CivilCeremoniesA.htmlgave me some sort of idea for how the general structure of the ceremony should go.

Also, this website has some different ideas for readings that aren't religious/are different: http://offbeatbride.com/tag/readings
  • A Simple Vow is wonderful! I love Mark and Jeanie! I have been to many weddings with him as the officiant. Always beautiful and well thought-out.
